I love clams now
I ordered 2 batches of 15 for an aquaponics system holding about 450 gallons. All of the clams arrived alive (I waited until fall for cooler temperatures), and started situating themselves and/or doing the snorkel thing immediately.I have found one of them dead after a week or two, but I have handled them excessively and it may have ended up buried in anoxic mud or something, and I expected them to be much more sensitive than they are, so I'm pretty happy.Surprisingly, these are much more entertaining than I expected. They also fill a niche that I think will benefit the good work my shrimp and snails do by keeping the water column more clear of bits that shrimp and snails can't really catch.I need to keep the water more nutrient rich than I can reasonably maintain for fish, so the garden of plants that have their roots in it can grow and fruit, but not be overwhelmed with algae and biofilm. It looks like these clams are doing all the things that I expected except for dieing back, so the next question is going to be if they will undergo a population explosion and get stuck in the pump and water lines. It holds up to Trumpet Snails though, so I don't expect a clampocalypse... yetI'm looking forward to collecting some, if they reproduce, and making a little 'stream bed' for them to catch whatever small bits come out of my spin-down filter, which always has flow due to a smaller pump running in parallel.

Must buy!
These little guys are so look ok cool! I put them in a small aquarium of sand and sunk it in my patio fish pond. I loved watching them burrow down! Can't wait for my grandson to see them!!!!

Fresh water.
They came the next day after I ordered them. The are so small but that’s fine. We put them in an aquarium and the next day we went to see them they had buried themselves in the sand. We will keep an eye on them and hope they start growing. Very happy so far.

They all died :(
The media could not be loaded. They came in mostly alive…. Placed them into the tank and within two hours about half had buried themselves and all but Three had buried themselves by the end of the second day…. Over the next few weeks I ended up with nothing but A bunch of empty clam shells sitting on the surface. They each came back to the top and died. Now I did have these guys shipped during one of the massive heat waves this summer, so maybe they were terribly stressed during transport and just didn’t recover very well. At this point I think I have one survivor left…. Very very sad.

Arrived all alive.
A little small, but they were all there and all alive.

1/2 of them died but fun looking.
They gave us 18 not 15 but many died the first few days and got eaten by the other aquamarine life. We ended up with half of them surviving and burrowing into the sand. Not sure how much help they will be for our tank but sure is fun looking at them burrowing and much cleaner than snails.

Great addition to our home aquarium
I received 16 clams one month ago. Currently all 16 clams are thriving in my shrimp/rasbora tank. We get a lot of enjoyment hunting for their little filter mouths in the soil when they come up to feed. Most of the time we don't see more than just the little mouth, but occasionally one or two will unbury itself so we can see it better. I was worried they'd die under the soil but when I've looked, I've been able to find all of them and they bury themselves again shortly after.
