Watercolor Workshop: Learn to Paint in 100 Experiments

A highly recommended resource.
I highly recommend this well-conceived instructional watercolor book. Starting with color theory and paint testing, the learner works side by side in the book. Each paragraph and exercise contains helpful information and practice, moving along, building a solid foundation as new watercolor techniques are thoughtfully introduced. Each chapter culminates with exercises designed to show off those new techniques. The line drawings provided for the composite exercises are easily copied onto watercolor paper if desired. This is a thick book with generous exercises that provide much more than the usual class. As the learner proceeds, their art joins the lessons side by side in the book. This author has a gift for building information in tiny bites that lead in an orderly fashion to a banquet of skills. Few authors manage that with most provoking confusion that erodes confidence. There has been a review or so whining about the paper and water absorption. Finding a commercial printing paper that can nicely produce color art and then serve to have water applied is not easy. Impossible without creating a volume that would easily cost a hundred dollars or more to produce. This solution is as good as it is going to get. The student can quickly learn to temper the amount of water used. That is a basic watercolor skill in and of itself. It helps to have a piece of watercolor paper nearby to experiment with. This book has brought me countless hours of pleasure and a delightful new developing skill as we all spend so much time at home. Watercolor is cheerful work, good for keeping spirits thriving. It is a delight on so many levels.

Excellent resource
If you are looking to improve your watercolor painting skills and learn how to manage color blending this is the book for you. Includes plenty of exercises in learning how to handle watercolor as well as information on colors, pigments and their properties including opaque, transparent and granulating. Also covered is mixing, paper wetness and application of paints. Techniques include wet on dry, wet in wet, ombre, bloom, flat washes, lifting and layering techniques. There are pigment swatch charts and exercises throughout the book that can be used in the book or printed out on watercolor paper itself. for testing use. One of the best books in my library.

Good resource for beginners and holds watercolor well
First I want to address the paper quality. The pages are thicker than a normal book but not as thick as watercolor paper. It likely will not handle a large wash well but large washes are not an exercise in the book. Since this is simply for practicing methods it will be adequate, and with tracing you could easily transfer activities to high quality watercolor paper if desired (I will be doing it myself with tracing paper).I used Mei Liang watercolor (not fancy but good bang for your buck at affordable price). I had no issues with bleeding. The pages warped slightly but that is expected. I placed a large drop of water on the corner as a test and while it warped the paper slightly it did not bleed through. In the images I show the first page I used and its backside. The book has a lot of activities that are great for beginners and is loaded with tips for getting the best results. There is a lot of repetition in the exercises which is great for beginners. The exercises use really cool and unique artwork that I am so excited to try out. The book does not include basic artistic theory and methods outside of watercolor, which I am a fan of as someone with artistic experience but little watercolor experience. I highly recommend for beginner watercolorists like me!

Intensive Book for Beginners
This is a great book for beginners looking to dive into watercolors fully. I'm fairly new to watercolors and I'm about 1/4 way through the book and I can't say enough about how much information is packed into the exercises that are easy to follow but really work at building your skills.I think that if a beginner to watercolors is looking to buy a book to learn from this is one of the good ones.

This book is GREAT
I’ve been wanting to learn watercolor for a while and this book just dives right into it. It shows you step by step different techniques. I’m only on page 38 so far and I’m really enjoying it. I do with the paper was a little stronger to hold more water but other than that it’s great. It’s fun to look through, I’m excited to learn more to get into the harder watercolor paintings

Book seems great… but… why?????
Bought this book to aid in writing my own curriculum to teach private lessons. But…. What’s up with the sticker slapped on the front cover of my BRAND NEW book????? And the cover is paper so I can’t rip the sticker off without ruining the cover. A little annoyed by that. But the content seems perfect for what I’m looking for.

Ok paper for watercolor practice
This book is great! I really like the play on colors and practices with the swatches. The paper is not watercolor paper, but i can tell you that it does have sizing on it, like a clear gesso. Some paints will have a reaction to the paper that creates those dots you see in the other reviews. For example, my Qor watercolors does not react great, and each time i used it those dots appeared - sennelier & komorebi paints went down smooth, and Daniel Smith & winsor newton were ok. It can take some water, without major buckling. On the green and yellow swatches, i went over it like 3 times and it doesn't warp too bad. So, the paper is ok for watercolor practice. Be mindful of what paints you use, id suggest to not use Qor watercolors.

Great resource
This book was a great guide for improving your watercolour technique. I wouldn't say it's for beginners who have never worked with watercolours before, more for those who have dabbled a little in it and want to learn more. The information on selecting a palette is very basic and goes on the assumption that you already have an established collection of watercolour paints. The quality of the paper is perfect for the purpose, although you may want to have an extra pad of watercolour paper on hand to practice more on. I found my paints dried quite quickly on the paper and I didn't have to wait long to move onto the next page.Overall I'm very happy with what I've learned, I'd recommend it to budding artists who want to learn more on watercolour techniques in one book.

Breastfeeding point for a newbie!... (Which I am!)
I love this interactive work book.. It's very exciting to use, clear instructions, and a book well worth it's price, which is also reasonable.... I love this book...

Good book with examples
Nice book with examples you can directly paint on the pages in the book. Thick and sturdy paper, that wond make the watercolor leak through the pages. Still a bit difficult for someone who never used watercolor.

Magnífico para aprender acuarela y además lo puedes hacer en el mismo libro. Tiene papel de acuarela
The media could not be loaded.
