great-- if you get one that works
pros: -it's a great toy that keeps kitty occupied for a while. she will frequently "ask" to play with it by pawing at it. sometimes she doesn't even try to chase after the wand/tail bit and enjoys just sitting there watching it move. -there's different speeds/modes, and it eventually shuts itself off after about a half hour of play so as to conserve battery life. -it's easy to put together and take apart for storage. cons: -unfortunately it's easy for kitty to pull the wand off the spinning platform, so I occasionally have to reattach it while she's playing. -buying this toy comes with an extra added expense: batteries. Some rechargeable batteries and a charger seems to be the ideal setup, otherwise it feels wasteful to keep buying and discarding them. -it's not the most durable, which explains amazon's caveat that this item is returned often. I broke one of these by tripping over it. I bought another one and it stopped working after a day of use. now I'm on my third one and it *seems* to be holding up, though kitty has bitten the "tail" part off the wand (it still works, but that's too bad). I guess it just depends on whether or not you get a good one, but it's worth it if you do.

Their Toy is Mysterious and Important.
Our cats, including foster cats, really enjoy this. The nice thing is that multiple cats can play with this at the same time. For them it’s mysterious, and it’s a winner.

Cat loves it
My cat loves this toy, but it eats through C cell batteries like candy. I've gotten maybe 2 hours of use out of it before the batteries just called it quits. It has no stand by mode or otherwise shuts off after X amount of time when the cat isn't playing with it. So if you aren't diligent, it'll just run and kill the batteries. I can't see myself keeping this around if I have to buy so many batteries for it. Rechargeable cat toys are way better. Edit: I take back what I said about the batteries. It's still been running for the last several weeks on the same set of batteries. The toy just randomly decided to die and then come back to life a few hours later when I first wrote the review. I still think it should have some sort of auto-shutoff though.

CAUTION - Dangerous Exposed Braided Wire
This is one of those products that was hard to rate. The positives and negatives almost cancel each other out, but not completely. Cats love it!!!! Nothing else to say in that regard. The underlying concept is perhaps one of the most innovative ideas for house cat exercise in some time. ON THE OTHER HAND, the product is cheaply made, but for less than $20 bucks how much can we complain? I've seen my cats tear up household items worth hundred of dollars, but they were not designed to withstand a playful and aggressive cat. The Cat's Meow has one major flaw - it is not designed to withstand a cat's prolonged attention. For example, ever see a cat catch a mouse? They like to put a paw on the tail and watch the their prey panic in fear. Your cat will do the same with this toy. The cat will put a paw on the little red mouse tail and hold in in place as it struggles to escape. After about 10 minutes of this the motor will burn out and you just lost $20. Another problem is that a braided wire is sewn into the skirt, or rather, is inserted into the skirt after sewing - I'm not sure which. Twice now, on two different sets, I have seen the braided wire pop out at the seam on the skirt, which then poses a dangerous threat to the eyes of the cat rapidly chasing the red tail around in circles. I have clipped the wires and rotated the ends away from the seams so that they hopefully will not pop out again, but I cannot trust my cats to be left alone with this toy for fear of injury from shoddy design. I recently bought a "Smartykat Hot Pursuit" toy from Wally World for $18.99. Haven't tried it yet, but I am hoping that it is a better quality construction than the Cat's Meow. Again, fantastic idea for a cat toy - very poor design and engineering.

Cool toy, but the spinning stick isn't the greatest
Nice toy, bought this one because a different one broke. My cats love playing with these things. The stick piece that spins around is not secure enough though. Just a day after buying it, they pulled it out and lost it in the house (it took me another day to find it). And they bit pieces off of the string so it's a lot shorter now. I wish there was a locking mechanism to prevent the stick from being pulled out. Also I wish the piece on the end of the stick was replaceable. Once the string is gone, I would have to jury rig something onto it.

One of the cats absolutely loves it! And they play with it endlessly. Great toy and a good price. They do run down however. We are on our third. But still good value. I would love it if they have a 15 minute shut off instead of a 30 minute... the cats often wander off and if you aren't around to shut if off it just runs out the batteries.

Loved it to start with, now unfortunately bored with it so they no longer play with it or only spradically

Mi gato ama el juguete. Si a su gato le termina gustando mucho recomiendo comprar baterias recargables porque se gastan algo rapido.
