Weight is 2.2 lbs. for the 4590, and the measured blade length is 8" with a small notch at the bottom for catching and holding larger diameter twigs. I'm not a plant person, but these easily cut twigs up to 1/8" diameter, with about 3/16" dia. the maximum to cut comfortably. They will definitely not cut the 3/8" diameter lower branches on the bushes. For those, I use the short-handled (18") Berger 4195 lopping shears which are powerful and easy to use. I switched to Berger after going thorough several of the inexpensive tools found at the home improvement stores. The problem with those was that the blades tended to bend apart and would cut poorly even after they were sharpened. The Bergers use forgings that are twice the thickness, so I've encountered no bending or flexing. Also they seem to stay sharp longer.
