Decent Quality Clone at the Price - Budget Friendly Blue Iris Camera
I have been working with security camera products for over 20 years - over that time I have installed systems for businesses, corporations and individuals - from enormous multimillion dollar systems to single camera nursery monitors. I’ve consulted on large projects and written about security vulnerabilities within networks for trade publications. This is a field I know well. Over the years the technology has improved and become less and less expensive to produce. It is now practical to install security systems that would have only previously been used in commercial settings in residential. As with all security systems my advice is never use cloud based recording - this opens your entire network to not only the company who you are giving blanket access too but also to hackers. The same is true for WiFi. Obviously WiFi is more convenient but if your privacy is a concern this really needs to be taken into account. Hackers have become quite adept at hacking into WiFi cameras and being able to not only watch your feed but control your cameras and access your entire network. If you choose to utilize WiFi cameras take the time to understand your router and employ proper VPN protocols.Due to my security concerns with WiFi cameras my current security system is completely run through a dedicated computer utilizing the Blue Iris software. While this may seem intimidating to some, it is well worth learning and utilizing for the huge advantages in privacy and security.I’ve noticed many people have asked if this camera works with a Blue Iris and it does without any issue. Just update to the latest firmware. The remainder of setup within Blue Iris is straightforward. This HITOSINO / VALUCAM 8MP IR IP CAMERA supports PoE 802.3af and will work with 48V active adapters which are more expensive, but you can also rely on a PoE switch, which in my opinion is a much easier, straightforward option. The fixed lens size of 2.8mm provides decent field of view and the digital zoom is acceptable. The 1/2.7" CMOS image sensor is decent in low light, certainly not as good as 1/1.8” but I’ve found the low light capabilities average in comparison to other similar cameras. While low light capabilities will not blow you away they are reasonable. The LEDs must be illuminating objects to provide what is considered “colored night vision” which is misleading. The camera has a built in microphone that allows for sound recording, though no speaker so two way communication will not be possible with this unit.In terms of storage, the HITOSINO / VALUCAM 8MP IR IP CAMERA utilizes H.265 which is currently the best option for video compression. I have had this set up utilizing Blue Iris software which I definitely recommend. By fine tuning BI settings I have been able to find a balance between file size and image quality that works for my situation. When all things are taken into account this is a solidly built camera, reasonably suited to outdoor environments - if at all exposed to elements rake the time to seal as an added layer of protection, decent daytime / nighttime resolution, easily mounted, and setup in Blue Iris was reasonably easy and straightforward. While I would prefer to have pan and tilt capabilities at this price point that is unrealistic.Overall I have been moderately impressed with this budget camera and would recommend it for many security situations.

Solid quality. 10 stars
Works flawlessly as any Dauua camera has and I own over 50 of them of varying resolutions from 2mp to 4k. You cannot go wrong. If you couple this to the right software like Blue Iris you will be in surveillance heaven.

The camera is well built but there are easier to setup units with better picture quality.
This 8MP 4K IP Camera by HITOSINO & VALUCAM is ok to use it as stand alone IP camera or controlled by a computer. The camera built quality appears very good but the picture quality is not as good as similar priced 4K cameras. This 8MP 4K IP Camera by HITOSINO & VALUCAM must be initialized before it can be used.A software must be downloaded and installed and the IP camera must be connected directly to a computer via Ethernet. The IP camera needs to be powered, so and power adapter is required. The computer IP must also match the IP camera default IP address. If you happen to have a laptop without an Ethernet, like most modern laptop, you could be out of luck.I tried a USB to Ethernet adapter and I could not get the IP camera to initialized and instead was getting an error. After the IP cam is 'initialized, it can be accessed using its default IP address or the IP address could be changed to matched your network, NVR or router.I got the camera to work well via its WEB interface using its default IP address, but when connected to a couple of NVRs none of its features were accessible. The initialization software, player and client software could be obtained by navigating to the provided WEB address or QR code. There are also 3rd party mobile apps that could be used to access the IP camera feed on a smartphone.I do not need a mobile app since I use the NVR app, which is very good and reliable.I have use and installed similar IP cameras on different NVRs, and they all worked out of the box...no initialization required. The IP camera supports recording to H.265, which is great to save space. Ultra HD 4K video takes a lot of space and your disk will fill up mighty fast otherwise. You could also record to a SD card by inserting one into is micro-SD card slot.I tested the security camera during the day and night, indoor and outdoor, and it performed just a bit better than 1080P IP cameras. It did not get close to any of similar priced 4K IP cameras I have. The audio was as good and clear as other IP cameras and if you happen to have a display with speaker you could hear the audio in real time. The IP camera switches itself automatically to 'Sub Stream' (480p) even over Ethernet. If you happen to manually set it to 'Main Stream' it continually displays a annoying blinking message about switching to 'substream' '...for better video playing experience.' It might be better playing but the very low quality is not a good experience.I have similar 4k dome cameras with the same exact features, they cost about the same (some a bit less) but they have better picture quality during day light and at night. They are also easier to setup, since they just need to be plugged into a NVR or router without the hassle of initialization. Also most of their features are available and editable on NVRs and they also come with their own apps.In case you need support, using a 3rd party app complicated things a bit.It you just want a simple IP camera and do not mind the additional setup hassle, then the 8MP 4K IP Camera by HITOSINO & VALUCAM will do.
