I didn't use them for a light switch, but...
I didn't use them for a light switch, but to extend some blind cords in the workshop, that kept snapping, and they worked perfectly. I see no reason they wouldn't be fine for light switches.

Good quality Chain
This is finer than the size of chain used on blind cords, but slightly coarser than what you'd normally hang dog tags on. It's good quality and suited my purposes perfectly.
