Would recommend to any cricket fan. Review: A Broad Portrait - This is an interesting book which seems written by the man himself- no ghost writer is acknowledged. It is an easy read. There is some clumsiness in the writing but despite that (or because of that) the character of the cricketer shines through. He comes from an athletic family with a good mother who asked him when picking him up from sports not whether he had done well but whether he had had fun. There is little here about his father who was also a test player- though nothing to suggest anything wrong. I would liked to have heard about when father fined his son for on field transgression. Most sportsmen are obsessive in some way and Broad is no exception but there is a human side here that is revealed which made him an attractive figure. He is also relatively objective about himself, which again is good. Recommended.

Cracking read
Great read for all cricket fans, keen insights into Broady’s analysis of his bowling and opposition batting - huge mental strength and application as well as talent took him to the very top. It was a privilege to watch him in his pomp. An all time great.

Mixed feelings
I really like and admire Stuart Broad. I wish he was still playing, thundering down the pitch to smash some Aussie wickets. However, this book has not been written well and the main problem is that it hasn't been planned and organised well. The narrative jumps around from place to place and time to time so you have to really concentrate to keep up. This is the fault of the editing team and publishers. Writing your life story and making it accessible to readers cannot be easy. I don't know if a ghost writer was involved but if so they were not the right one for this book. Having said all that, the information and details were good. I loved the stories from Stuart's childhood, telling how dedicated you have to be to get into professional cricket. If this book has been organised better and made more accessible and interesting to the ordinary reader, I would have given it more stars.

A decent insight
If you're a cricket fan this is a decent read but so determined are the writers to not write the autobiography chronologically that it jumps about too much and rather loses its shape. It also needed something of an additional edit as it gets rather repetitive.

All Round Performer
I love cricket and have always liked Broad. This book made me like him even more. It is recent history but it also expands quite honestly into the story of English Cricket in the last 2 decades. It gives a view of a talented and often mercurial performer and then shows his increasing maturity both on and off the field. His involvement and retelling in the Lord's Test in 2023 was brilliant and compared favorably with the Amazon Aussie Test perspective shown earlier this year. A good read.
