Q: Which kernel/packages are required for this camera? i'm on linux 5.10.103 (march 8, 2022) on a pi 4 (4 gb), and vcgencmd says supported=1, detected=0.

Q: Can the focusing motor be programmatically controlled via I2C or otherwise? Or is this just an auto-focus that cannot be controlled?

The focus can be manually controlled and, as I recall, the driver package contains some scripts and examples to demonstrate the control API. Since no extra cables are needed, I assume it's just using the CSI cable's standard control channel (I2C I believe)
