Apple Pro Training Series: OS X Server Essentials 10.9: Using and Supporting OS X Server on Mavericks

I buy each series of these and they're always a perfect companion for walking through a new mac server version for the first time. Just install Parallels and a fresh OS & Server App and go to town. Its that easy to learn.

If you're enrolled in the Apple course, this books is likely very helpful, but if you're an individual looking for a "how-to" resource to guide you through configuring OSX Server for your own network, this book is a far cry from what you're looking for. All instructions are written for the in-class network environment that Apple uses for their instructor-led Certified Technical Coordinator course. If there's information in here about how to configure a server in the real world, I can't find it. Best to rely on online user forums or maybe another text unless you're sitting in an Apple classroom.

The book came damaged in shipping, but was not messed up enough for a return or exchange. Other than that, its a 5 star book.

I am a Windows computer service professional, wanting to broaden my market, so I am getting myself familiar with the Mac world. This book gives a good introduction to the Mac server possibilities and how to configure it.

You can get better information at [...]A really good manual on OSX server really doesn't seem to exist. There is a huge void abd this book does very, very little to fill it.

Well written and very informative. A great breakdown of the many feature of OS X server. I highly recommend this book!

Has a lot missing and some pretty basic things at that, like the setting up of syslog. Did a search for the word daemon and got a big fat zero finds.
