Not what I had hoped for
The term potting 'mix' made me think it was the recycled paper they tell you about MIXED with soil of some sort. It is only a huge bag of the recycled paper. I have mixed it myself with potting soil. We will see about water retention rates etc. as time goes on. A word of caution to those who purchase, this stuff stinks to high heaven. Work outdoors or in a well ventilated space unless you enjoy being bathed in the smell of manure.

Compare before buying
I purchased PittMoss specifically because I want to use peat moss free potting mix. Its texture is very different because it's made from recycled paper and to me it has an unpleasant odor. The cost is high. After buying it, I found NearSource brand Raised Bed and Container Mix 100% peat moss free 1 1/2 cu.ft. at Home Depot, 2 bags for $16. No odor. It works better for me.

Super disappointed
I learned about Pitt moss at Mother Earth news fair and was VERY enthusiastic about it. But in using it I have become very unenthusiastic about it. It dries VERY quickly and doesn’t work well for soil blocks. You have to water a lot more with this product. I am extremely anti peat moss but this is not a good alternative.

Dried Up and Killed my Seedling
I know there is supposed to be a learning curve to this product (according to Joe Gardener) but I up potted a seedling I was growing indoors under lights into this media to test it out. And the media dried out SUPER quick and the seedling, of course, died. I'm not interested in the work this stuff will take. Waste of money - it's going in the compost. I was SO hopeful and am SO disappointed.

Not what it claims
This product claims to be organic potting mix, but it is just shredded colored paper. Not sure how that qualifies as either organic or potting mix. It may be okay to mix with actual potting mix, but the paper would encourage mold.
