For 5 year old
My 5 y/o granddaughter does well with this and she is small for age. It will probably work well for her for 2-3 more years. too soon to say about value, ruggedness, etc

Cute but worthless as a shovel
The blade is a pretty blue, and the handle is a manageable length for a child. That's all I have good to say about this "shovel". It's the oddest shape blade I've seen, just waiting for some kid to press their foot on the push edge and make the blade fold in half. The shovel is attached to the skinny pine handle with a small screw, which is already stripped. ( Actually I think the srew pilot hole may have been drilled too large.) I give this shovel about a week with my 3 yr old daughter in the garden before its a stick and a piece of scrap metal.

Good for small jobs
This is a child's tool but is great to use around shrubs and minor tilling. I accidentally ordered 2 which was fortunate as my first one's handle broke.

Not the right color
I bought this specifically for the pinkish purple color for my daughter. An orange rake arrived. It is fine otherwise, but I will be returning.

sturdy little rake
This is a nice little rake that maybe was intended for children, but I use to rake leaves in tight little corners where a large rake won't fit. Strong metal and high quality wood handle

We use as pooper scooper
After our sons outgrew their play garden shovel, rake etc., we found that one like this works well as a pooper scooper for picking up dogs' area of yard. I've bought a real "squeeze the handle" scooper, and it didn't work well in grass. Since our kids' little shovel finally bit the dust, I was happy to find a sturdy wood handled/metal replacement online. Inexpensive and makes a dirty job go quicker!

Sturdy...edges are not sharp
I bought one of these to use in our pea gravel playground, because our kids are rough on toys. I had the Melissa & Doug Play shovels; they broke in record time. My kids love these, but as with any tool they should be supervised. There is a caution label on the shovel that states "this is not a toy". It's a real shovel people. Get it for gardening, but if you will use for sand, gravel, or wood chips supervise children. Also give them a lesson on proper usage. Our kids do fine with them, but we supervise them.
