Spinning Spiders (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 2)

This book will be very pleasing to children. The illustrations, by S.D. Schindler, are clear and colorful. The text itself is simply put, but is packed full of spider information. I did not know about the different kinds of webs that spiders spin - a great variety. I did not know that there are more than 30,000 kinds of spiders. I did not know that the spider's "solid thread of silk" is first a liquid that comes out of spinnerets, then it hardens and becomes very sticky, making it easy to entrap insects. And this silk thread can "stretch almost twice its length."I really did not know spiders, and I've seen them all my life. They are very complex and intricate, and now I look at them with new eyes. Eyes of wonder and awe.The author points out that while people fear spiders, spiders rarely injure people. In the United States, only two kinds of spiders can bite a human being, but they are both very shy and usually run if a human draws close.This book is really a gem. A wonderful way to introduce any child, or an adult-child, to the wonders of spinning spiders.

My son loved it. I actually learned a lot too. He can learn so much science, vocabulary, life lessons, and learn to read at the same time.I have 2 books form this series and decided to buy a used lot of a couple dozen instead of 1 at a time. I am really excited to read more from "Lets read and find out". I love teaching him about the things in which he shows interest.

The grandkids love this book. Helps us identify some of the spiders we see outside.

This book was more than I expected, in terms of information and clear illustrations, certainly not only for children. I loved it.

Great book and very educational. It keeps my boys attention and they tell me facts they learned from it, whenever we see a web in the house or outside.

My daughter enjoyed reading and learning about spiders.We often find different spiders where we live, and this book helps to identify them.There are many fun facts about spiders.

I bought the book for my five year old grand don.Very suitable .Excellent script and illustrations.

We have most of the Level 1 books. They are a great introduction to science for little children. The only reason these don't get five stars is because a slightly bigger font size would have made these books excellent.

I really liked this book and found the info and pics well thought-out. My students liked it too, but not as much as I did, which was interesting.
