Injured and in need of a change of clothes, Jason finds himself...

*by E***M on Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2020*

Part 3 opens the evening after the events of Part II. Injured and in need of a change of clothes, Jason finds himself at a lakefront shop owned by Harold and Edna Hockett. With a storm blowing in on Crystal Lake, plenty of wind, thunder, and lightning set the tone as Edna is watching the local evening news detailing the grisly events (discovered that morning) from the night before. Catching only brief glimpses here and there, and with nothing covering his face, Jason stalks and kills the not too likable Hocketts' around their property and shop.Released in 1982, Part 3 stands as one of the better entries in the franchise. After one of the more truly intense openers to any of the Friday the 13th movies, we are introduced to a new group of teens heading to Crystal Lake for some summer fun. This movie is a nice departure from the first two, as the teens aren't Camp Counselors and this isn't camp. The setting is Higgins’ Haven, the family farm of Chris Higgins – The Final Girl. Jason seems to have arrived at Higgins' Haven before the teens and is hiding out in the barn. The way Jason creeps around the barn and stalks his victims like a stealthy shark is great. Many people seem to have a problem with this movie for that, but really, where else would he hide, especially in broad daylight? There is only a two-story farmhouse, a barn, and an out-house on the property. Don't worry, he eventually makes it into that house…Things of note regarding Part 3:It is the first movie Jason dons the iconic Hockey Mask.We as an audience definitively find out where Crystal Lake is located: Green Valley, NJThe movie opens on the evening of Saturday the14th and ends on the morning of Monday the16th.A word on Continuity:Parts II - IV form a trilogy of sorts, with Part 3 tucked neatly in the middle. The three movies cover a killing spree by Jason that spans 6 consecutive days (Thursday the12th – Wednesday the18th) resulting in 33 victims. For this alone, the Friday the 13th franchise has established some really good, strong continuity within itself. (Huge fan of the Halloween franchise but, 5 different Timelines? More about that in the Halloween 2018 review.) The fact that the first 8 Friday’s share only 1 linear, albeit, not totally perfect Timeline helps this case even further. The trilogy isn’t perfect; Jason goes from having a noticeable amount of head hair at the end Part II, to being clean shaven at the beginning of Part 3. Even as far ahead as Part VII though, the director was trying to make sure that the damage Jason’s mask had matched Parts 3 and IV.Fun Fact: In Part II, Ginny Field and Paul Holt were shown as being the only survivors of Jason’s rampage. In Part 3, while Edna is watching the news report about the murders, the reporter says that only 8 victims were found and Ginny Fields was the lone survivor. Where is Paul? This is a mystery that has baffled people for years. If Paul had been murdered there would have been 9 victims. Steve Miner, the director of Parts II and 3, has a cameo in Part 3 as the newscaster, ala Hitchcock. There is speculation that Paul did die in a cut scene from Part II where his body could be seen in Jason’s lair, BUT if this had been the case why not alter the reporter’s dialogue for Part 3? It was the director delivering those lines, after all. So for now, Paul has just vanished into thin air! Thanks for reading my review.Hope you enjoyed some of the facts that are peppered throughout.

The 3D is awesome on this disk... Great 3D depth ... Comes with 2 pair of glasses... Wish they made more movies in 3D..You DON"T need a 3D TV or player for this movie!

Jason and the Barn of Death

*by S***E on Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2020*

A van load of Jason Targets go up to Crystal Lake somehow oblivious to the last batch that got turned into Jason Kibble and find out Jason is just getting into his stride. This movie was made during the 80s 3D craze and much of the movie is geared for this and comes across as incredibly gimmicky. The movie also goes into total false scare overload. It felt like the only requirement for the script was there must be a jump scare every 2.3 minutes or you don’t get paid. It gives the movie a very rocky pace with you being bounced from jump scare to jump scare. Jason finally gets his iconic hockey mask and offs the oddest batch of Jason Targets yet. Between the dollar store Tommy Chong to bikers for some reason, to Shelly the most loathsome Jason Target of them all. Honestly I can’t think of another character in any Friday the 13th movie that annoyed me more. It was almost like they offered him to the audience so they wouldn’t feel so bad about Jason machete-ing his way through the rest like some oddball sacrifice. Definitely the second weakest of the Friday the 13th series, Jason Takes Manhattan can be safe in the knowledge no Friday the 13th movie is going to be worse than it, so far.
