Bodacious Space Pirates Collection [Blu-ray]

A great must have for Anime and Naval fans
(The Dub)I have already seen the dub long before and decided to buy this collection because it was good value for money in my opinion. The dub of this series is one of the few I consider good enough to make my "I will always watch this in English rather than Japanese" list which is a hard list to get on.(Story)I will do my best to sum up the story of this series. In a future universe pirates were given Letters of Marque which allowed them to carry out legal piracy (And yes if you're curious such things did exist in real life too) A clause in the Letter of Marque says that it can only be passed on to a living relative and if no relative exists then the Letter of Marque ends when the Captain using it passes away or ends their career. Enter Marika Kato, the only known living relative of a famous space pirate who is forced to continue her school studies by day and become a pirate by night (not literally of course but that's an easier way of summing that up)(Setting)I'm going to say it. Navy buffs will probably love this one. This series mixes modern day naval practices with science - fiction to the point the entire concept of Electronic Warfare is explained and showcased throughout the series. Much of the background design of things is rather realistic such as an emphasis on solar power for space travel and the impracticality of space borne ship to ship combat.(Characters)The design on the characters is pretty nice and each one has their own personality, although the usual Anime tropes such as Tsundere do come up, in a rare use of such tropes at least other characters do seem to note to things and respond to them for example poking fun at the Tsundere type character because everyone can see she is one. (I'll let you look at the cover and decide which character I am obviously referring too here)(Soundtrack)I love it, need I say more here?(Delivery)I only placed the order a short while ago and selected free delivery and I must say this was delivered in rapid time for a product I would consider rather obscure when you think about the usual products being sold on Amazon.

Pleasantly suprised...
if title puts you off or makes it sound like another ecchi adventure you will be pleasantly surprised. The show follows Marika Kato, a 1st year high school student who suddenly finds out she's the next candidate to be captain of the Space Pirate ship Bentenmaru, all the while juggling her piracy with her school life, duties to the school's Yacht Club and her part time job.At first i was expecting a typical anime girl with plenty of pointless fan service or slapstick humour. But when i starting watching it there was none. Infact there is no fanservice in this show at all, or even any pointless slapstick violence. The shows tone is very tame but at the same time very interesting. The story arcs are short yet well written and well paced, the characters are very real with no over the top personalities with weird traits.I bought this on a whim, but found myself thoroughly enjoying it. If you are a fan of pure sci-fi adventure then i highly recommend you get this.

Excellent
Excellent anime. I wish they would release the movie in the UK OR - better - officially translate the light novel series. I really enjoyed it, though I’m not certain of how it ended. I am reasonably sure some of the characters are are a reference to or, more likely, are poking fun at Sailor Moon; the princess is much more competent, at least.

cool
In the far future where space travel has become the norm, Marika Kato is a high school girl living a rather ordinary life as a member of the space yacht club and a part-time job at a high-class retro café. One day, Marika learns of her recently deceased father, Gonzaemon, who is revealed to have been a Space Pirate who performed legal acts of piracy under the letter of marque. In order for her father's ship, the Bentenmaru (ep1-26)
