HSK Standard Course 4A - Workbook (English and Chinese Edition)

Good book for self study! It took me a while for find the audio files for the listening tests though. Finally found it on the back cover of the book. Just scan the qr code on the back and you will see all the audio files. The author should havr put the instruction in the preface.

The companion workbook for the new HSK Standard Course curriculum is really a test booklet. The format of each unit in the workbook follows a simulated HSK exam layout. There are no drills in here in the traditional sense. All those drills, practice, fill in the blank type exercises are contained in the main lesson book / textbook. The work book comes with an audio CD. The content on the CD is effectively the same as what one might hear on the listening section of the HSK exams. What is uniquely useful about what the authors have done here is that the content of each unit in the workbook/ simulated test booklet follows the vocabulary and grammar points covered in the same unit from the classroom textbook. So unit 1 in the textbook is about love and romance. Unit 1 in the simulated exam workbook is also about love and romance.It is not what I expected, but I think it is still useful and effective practice, once you have completed the given unit in the textbook.

Beware! There is absolutely no pinyin to support the reading of Chinese characters.

Love this book! The speaking is a little faster on the workbook cd than it is on the textbook but that’s alright it helps with listening I suppose. I wish there was an English instruction page somewhere because the test is very different from HSK 3 and was confused at some parts on what I should do.
