Quirkology: The Curious Science of Everyday Lives

I'd already read the book and loved it, so I bought the Audible version. Loved that too; it was a great refresher of what it's about.

Take your forefinger and draw a capital Q on your forehead. Depending on which side of your face you drew the tail, you're either a deceitful attention seeker, or clueless but in touch with your feelings.Quirkology is full of observations and experiments like the above, and they're usually more in depth and rather fascinating. It explores the quirks of the human psyche with the help of numerous scientific studies, some carried out by the author himself. You may have heard of a few, such as the little girl who beat the stock market.The book is split into chapters with each one exploring a different set of human quirks, such as altruism, deception and superstition. The latter two chapters I found particularly interesting but there are a couple of weak ones* and the book is essentially just descriptions of various scientific studies. There's also nothing in Quirkology that'll change your life but I don't think that's its purpose, it's basically the scientific equivalent of QI.Richard Wiseman is able to inform in an entertaining way and it really comes across how much he cares about this subject. I felt the narrator of the audiobook really added to the light hearted and playful feel.Would recommend to anyone who's interested in knowing how to really spot a liar.7.5/10*Your mileage may vary

I bought the audio book of this to listen to while driving, instead of the same 20 songs that are always on the radio. It's easy listening and is fairly entertaining but to be honest doesn't really tell you anything you probably didn't already know. Lots of the assertions seem to be backed up by one off, sample of one type experiments and anecdotal evidence, or are so common sense you wonder why anyone bothered running an experiment.If you're looking for some light entertainment with a couple of factoids for conversation then this is great, if you want anything more serious than that then I'd keep looking.

Great audiobook. Well read, fascinating and funny.
