The windows based software update sent by support to update the firmware of SATA bridges (one by one) is not specific to my model so as to support SMART. The support experience was unacceptable in several ways. When scanning the QR sticker that says “24x7,” it leads to a 404 page. Underneath the sticker, it states that they respond within 24 hours, so “24x7” is misleading. Such promises are not trustworthy. I appreciate the compact design, the tool-less installation, and the fan, but I cannot trust the dynamic fan speed when that device doesn’t seem to get firmware right.This design is more suited for a home office setting and might not be as reliable as professional-grade and optimized for being always on. If you’re thinking about buying a SMART-compatible device, I’d suggest choosing one that’s been thoroughly tested, reliable, and has a chipset that’s been trusted in the past.
