I bought another book on birds from Oxfam and it really got my interest - my sense of humour. So I bought a couple of feeders and then made a couple and now we have more birds than you can shake the proverbial stick at. They have become a real source of joy to me and as some of them have quite distinguishing features it's good to see them back each day and getting braver in terms of how close they get to you for food and how long they stay in your company. I don't count them, or make lists, but I do love watching their behaviour and interaction with each other. This is one of those books that as you read it you can hear the voice of the author actually saying the words in your head. Like my new found friends the birds, this book brings a lot of joy, at least two or three laughs and smiles per page as well as some great facts (and bonus facts). I have been tempted to just sit down and, in my kids terminology, 'drill it out', but instead I have restricted myself to two birds a night and I am enjoying it all the more for it. They are cold books. But I also like Bill's book; its written in a conversational style, contains some unexpected facts that I did not know & a sprinkling of light humour. Its a warm book.
