There are many better books such as the ones by Noad that will allow you to progress without discouraging you. The key problem is that this is an extremely short book, 47 pages (by contrast, Noad's Solo Guitar Playing, Book 1 has 254 pages), and much of the space is taken up by photos and illustrations. As a result, the lessons give you way too much to learn with too little explanation and too few practice examples to learn the ideas presented. For example,chapter 5 has you learn the notes on the 4th, 5th, and 6th strings on the guitar (consider that each string has 3 notes to learn for a total of 9), and gives you a few brief exercises in a total of 5 pages to learn them! Chapter 6 has you learn the fingering for the "accidentals" (sharps and flats),which involves 12 different positions in 8 1/2 pages. Suffice it to say, you won't even come close to mastering these keys. The minimal text tells you very little beyond the most basic things about playing.This was to be the first volume of a 5-volume series on playing classical guitar. Indeed the supposed succeeding volumes are pictured on the back page, though actually only three have been published---the last one 5 years ago and hard to obtain. I'm not surprised. Volumes 2 (which devotes an inordinate amount of space to trimming your fingernails) and 3 are about the same length as volume 1. There is simply not enough meat on the bone in this series, and it is best forgotten, as possibly the publisher has already decided. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic for the classical beginner *by G***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 25, 2012* I'm 60years old and have just started to "self teach" myself classical guitar ( I like to challenge myself) this book and DVD are perfect for me, they show every thing I need to know, from the correct way to sit and hold the guitar, correct hand positions and the basics I needed to get started. There is even a test/review section at the end of the chapters.
