Q: what is the dimensions of the base

The base measures 14.7 x 7.7 cm

Q: is the height enough to be able to photograph coins in full up to 42cm width

It depends what you mount in the stand. The ring clamp will raise to about 150mm from the base, so if your camera device will give you what you want when the mounting point is 150mm from the subject, it will do what you want. PS not sure about a 42cm coin.

Q: Has anyone tried to use this for jewellery stone setting?

Not tried it myself, but with the appropriate usb microscope fitted I don’t see why not.
