History of Far Eastern Art

This is an important Art History book and out of print. So, it's great to have a reliable seller whose product was in very good condition, as described. Also, timing was excellent.

After looking at several other books on Asian art, this volume still seems to be the most comprehensive study of the topic. As a beginner, I have found it to be an extremely useful primer. There is a reason by the author, Sherman Lee, was the art historian selected by John D. Rockefeller, 3rd to advise him on his purchases of ceramic, stone, and metal objects from various Asian countries, the collection of which is now housed at the Asia Society in NYC. Lee was then the director of the Cleveland Museum. He was also one of the "monuments men" who categorized and organized artwork after WW II. However, while others worked in Germany, he worked in post WW II Japan under General MacArthur and had access to imperial warehouses, temples, and other sites which were off limits to others.

It's a huge book and it's a good thing because there are a lot of art printed on its pages. It makes it easy to see details of art pieces, which it has plenty of. Great book for Asian art class. Many of it are on Buddhist art, which I'm a fan of. It's a bit heavy though and I couldn't imagine carrying this around with me on campus all day.

For my class

The book covers a very interesting topic of Islamic art. Unfortunately, it is not as thorough as I would like it to be, but still, it does a good job of introducing people to the art of the Islamic world.

I got this book for my Arts of Asia class and it is highly informative but it is rather dense. I think that it is safe to assume that Mr. Lee did not write this with novices to Asian Art in Mind. His writing style is not very engaging and it can be hard to stay focused on the text.

Another beautiful Asian art history book. I needed this book for my Asian art history class and still have it because the photos and information are beautiful and easy to read and comprehend.

It is a good book, the quality is good , and it is the newest edition. It worths the money.
