The Girl and the Moon

What a fabulous series
Thoroughly enjoyed the Book of the Ice. It is different and well imagined. The characters are diverse and interesting, the premise is, if not original, different to any other interpretation I’ve come across. All in all an engrossing original story.

Storyline spoiled by change in pace
I enjoyed reading this trilogy and the trials and tribulations of people left on another planet and deserted by their forebears. However I got to 71% of this and had to stop. Not only had it become tedious, but it became obvious that there was a change in feelings of the protagonists, and where you, or I at least, was expecting a nice outcome with certain characters getting together, it became obvious that everything was twisting away from the positive outcomes and that one (don't want to add spoilers here) who rejected someone they did not want to end up with just because they did not feel that way about them and did not want to settle with them as it was their only option, seemed to be turning back to them. And the one who really loved them was also turning away to someone else. It was such a disappointment that I just couldn't make myself read any more. I have tried! But I lost interest after that as the outcome of the story no longer seemed to matter. If each person was going back to their old life having learned nothing from their journey, or rejecting others as they liked their new place more, the story became bitter. I was pleased the stories were so long, many e-books are far too short and disappointing, but the twisting path became too much for me. The animals, people, clans and the environment were detailed and fascinating, not a place I would want to live in certainly, no matter what part of the planet they lived in they never seemed to wash or clean their teeth, made me feel grubby throughout. Enjoyable, but a bit of a let down near the end.

Satisfying ending to a great trilogy
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I liked the book enough to buy a copy and the audible as well. The beginning is the end of book two. An epic climax continues with Eular's accusations. Will Yaz survive? The Ice, the Greenlands, the Convent and Abbess Claw are part of the canvas an outstanding ending gets painted upon. This writing is among Marks's best. To me, book 2 was the Empire strikes back of the trilogy. It set the foundations the story could build skyscrapers upon in book 3. Politics and lore grow in depth and flavour. In the end, I was impressed. I'm simultaneously sad the story is over yet happy at the ending.I highly recommend this book. It is worth buying.

Most original!
I have loved this series. It has so many twists and turns. The characters are both believable and completely engaging. A curious mixture of an imagined stone age, a post apocalypse and "alien" technology from the past!!

great finish (or not)
Lovely story. Plenty of action. Well written characters. Good pace. Some people died some didn’t. Well worth the read. Excellent

For some reason this series just did not work for me
After the cliffhanger ending (again) of the second book, we start right back into the action. For people who've read The Book of the Ancestor series, the settings of this will be much more familiar, as Yaz and Co are in the Greenlands and the links to that series are much more pronounced.I have enjoyed the story of this series but not the reading of it if that makes sense. I wanted to know what happened but was frequently bored while reading it. It's a great story, covering bits of the history of the world that impacts both series (and more). I'm a sucker for fantasy series that are really sci-fi and that is what this essentially is. How the author tied everything in in such an organic manner is impressive, considering I'm pretty sure he hadn't intended to tie all his series together in the beginning. It's not in your face or anything, you would probably want to have read the Nona series before this last book but you definitely don't need to have read all his other stuff. However even with all this good stuff, overall this series was a big let down. As I've mentioned in the reviews of the previous books, I think it is down to Yaz and all the other characters. I can live with hating or disliking a main character, it can actually add to the reading, but to be bored or uninterested is where you have issues. I'm still struggling to remember Yaz's name sometimes and that's just after finishing reading, whereas Jorg, Jalan, and Nona are still firmly there. If the support characters were good that would be something but honestly I didn't really care what happened to them either. Sometimes I know I just bounce of books, and when I go back to them down the line it's a completely different experience and I wonder if that's happened here. For most other author's I would have stopped in book one and gone back but here I continued as I've generally really enjoyed all his books. These are not bad books, the story, world and history are really interesting and this final book has a bit of an Avenger's Endgame vibe to it, but I've had major issues with it from the start. It's just a personal thing and I'm sure loads of other's have enjoyed it so I wouldn't let this put you off if you're interested in it.

Speechless
This was my least favourite trilogy, the broken empire was I thought the pinnacle closely followed by the Red Queen. Then ffs, one simple sentence turned it all around. There are lots of touch points to other books but the sheer majesty, impudence, whatever the word I am scrabbling for have me goosebumps. All the hyperbole isn’t going to give this justice. Read the rest of the authors books isn’t a prerequisite but you will miss out on an awful lot of hidden references. Bloody amazing

Loved it
Ahhhh I loved this book, sad it's over, I'm sure people will find plot holes with analysis but honestly I frickin enjoyed every minute of this page turnerWould definitely recommend if you liked the first two. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ THE RED SISTERS TRILOGY FIRST OR YOU WILL BE VERY CONFUSED

Wow, so good.
What a beautiful ending. This third book was such an amazing climax to the other two books as well as to the red sister series.I love this universe so much that Mark has created.I highly recommend. Lovely prose, nice life observations thrown in, and a brilliant story, intriguing and heart warming.

The door opens for another journey .......
Most enjoyable, a good end, leaving the imagination to take it to the next level. Thoroughly recommended, i will read these 3 again sometime, and again ....

Sigh… this story…
Picked up its pace and slammed it all home. Some may find the ‘time warp’ a bit much, but persevere, as it gives you a glimpse of the ‘whenevers’. Like the Sisters books, this will have a place in my heart forever.

a great conclusion
I have loved this series- I know that Lawrence has other series- from the beginning. The only reason it took me so long to get those books was I was reading something else. The characters develop nicely and you as a reader are confronted with their struggles. The world unfolds around you, the reader beautifully. If you’ve read the other two books pick this one up- you won’t be disappointed.
