Q: How big around are they

Not really sure how to answer that. I'm a size 12 & they fit fine with a lil "slouch". I'm guessing if you have big legs you'll still be fine because of how long they are. They have some give.

Q: Do they fit big calves?

Yes, good question, I was a roller skater (years ago) and am still an avid walker. I've always had big thighs and calves. These are excellent for keeping those ankles warm, love mine!

Q: Why is wool in the name if you have the materials listed as 100% acrylic?

Because it makes customers happy to think of lambs & natural things instead of plastic. The fibers are sold as acrylic wool in knitting shops.
