Great and safe set up
We realized there was a mouse issue in our “new to us” home after our first summer in the northeast. The neighborhood is heavily wooded. A contractor renovating suggested these bait traps to keep the mice out (along with the bait) after finding evidence of previous nests and infestation in the home.We did initially try “humane” traps that proved to be beyond the scope of our issue here. These bait traps are kid and animal safe with our dog. Theyopen with little effort with the key, but do NOT LOSE THE KEY!Our own dog pays them no attention. However a visiting dog recently found one outside and we were able to retrieve it without him opening it within seconds.

Amazing product when used as intended
I've used these bait stations for the last 5 years professionally inside residences and even had some that ended up being used in several different locations because they are durable and easy to clean. The key mechanism can be a little tricky but I've never had an issue with them coming open once snapped firmly shut. Especially when using rodenticide (poison) these are not intended to be used outdoors, and especially never anywhere that children or non-target animals (like pets) can get access to them. If you need a bait station for outdoor use, buy larger stations that are meant for rats. Also be aware that vitamin K is the treatment for most rodenticide poison. This will not only be used by a vet to treat a poisoned cat or dog.. but is also found in cat and dog food, so it is important to ensure that target pests like mice are not eating your storage of pet food.

Good but need more keys
We ordered a case of these intending to use them in different locations but only one key was provided in the box. Unlike other vendors who seem to provide one key for every bait station.

No more mice , good for small rodents
I bought it to use for house mice in my garage. It comes with a lock.It has a very sufficient entrance size for the mices. But it may be small for larger rats. Not easy to open.Quality is nice. Not heavy not lightweight.Easy to use.The bait compartment holds the bait tightly. There was no gnawing and deformation in the product I used. There are no mice in my garage anymore.I am satisfied.I recommend it for small rodents like mice.

Good Product
Easy to install & Key to open products & labels included - I put these along the walls of our cabin along with a few bags of FINAL Rodenticide RTU Place Pacs Powerful Pellet Bait with Brodifacoum with this trap. This trap will only allow mice to get inside not large rats, so the FINAl bags will take care of the larger mice. I purchased Tomcat With Bromethalin Bait Chunx Pail, 4 lbs. (Great Product) to put inside the Protecta Bait Station. I would purchase again!

Bait's disappearing so I'm HAPPY
Bought these to get a head start on the field mice trying to move in for the winter , they work good for what I needed , hold one block and snap lock, safe around my dogs .Blocks have been disappearing quickly so I'm satisfied. Just beware and make sure you get right size for you needs , these are for small mice only , not big enough for anything larger.

Makes bait blocks unavailable for an indoor pet.
These 12 bait stations are enough for us to scatter bait blocks in our basement and crawlspace and a couple in our laundry room where we feed the dog. We had our first mouse in the house recently, which we actually trapped and since then have had no more activity on any traps or bait blocks. But we decided to get into a preventive mode since we live where there's woods and fields. Hopefully this will do it. I have baited them before in the crawlspace part of the basement and they have fed on it intermittently, so I hope this will be a way to keep bait available but in a manner that our dog would not accidentally be able to grab a block if he got a chance to go into that area. The bait stations snap shut securely but the top can be popped open easily with the metal key or tool that came with them.

Smaller than you think it is.
The first thing I was struck by was the fact that these traps are not like what you generally see at a store or professionally installed at a house. They are actually quite small and are not much bigger than a deck of cards. There is enough room for an small to average mouse to get in there and get the bait. Also the lid is not hard plastic. It's quite soft and pliable and while the locking mechanism seems to be effective, I'd be concerned if I had dogs in the backyard with constant access as I'd expect it could be chewed through fairly quickly. Again, the locking mechanism seems solid so your kids and other pets should be ok.They also lack a hole in the bottom to secure them to the ground. Being as small and light as they are, I could see an animal just picking the hole thing up and taking off with it. I'm going to modifying mine with a hole in each back corner to allow for a tent stake to keep them in place.Overall, it seems like it will do the job. Just don't let the zoomed-in photo next to the description fool you. It's smaller than you think it is and should be more sturdy.
