salvaged my old hard drive thanks to this enclosure
my 15 yr old laptop finally became unusable, i don't remember why. i loved everything about that old hp. but my great grandson was able to remove the hard drive and save it for me. he put my documents on a thumb drive, but later i realized i had a lot of music and photos that he didn't save for me on a thumb drive. i knew nothing about hard drive enclosures at the time, so i just held on to that drive, figuring i would go later to some computer wizard to access those files. but then i learned about these enclosures, so i decided to take a chance. i wasn't sure whether i should get a 2-1/2" or a 3-1/2" enclosure. this drive was a reasonable price, and it turns out the size is great. it didn't seem to work the first time i plugged it in, but i waited too long to try to return it. tried it again recently, did something right this time that i had not done the first time, and YAY! - I'm able to access all those files again. now that i've figured it out, it works well, it's not noisy, and it's almost like using my old hp. i am very happy with this. (it ain't easy gettin' old with the way technology is advancing these days!)

Perfect solution to perform secure erasures of my old NAS drives
I bought this enclosure to erase two NAS drives that I am retiring and preparing to sell. I could do the erasure inside my NAS unit, but for $18 or so, why risk it? It took minutes to set up, with the hardest part being figuring out how to open the plastic case. Popped my drive in and it worked immediately with my Mac. The unit came with 2 foam strips that were not explained in the included instruction sheet. I'm guessing they are for the hard drive. The bottom of the enclosure has 4 rubber feet. The included USB cable is nice, but they should consider throwing in a USB-C adapter. The power adapter works fine as well just note it's a wider wall wart so I had to make some room on my power strip for it.

Not Bad at All
This item was shipped in a paper envelop. The product box was badly banged up, presumably in shipping, so I did not have high hopes for it working well (if at all). Fortunately, the only issue I had was that I found it extremely hard to open the case to put a hard drive in it. It slides off, but it was difficult to put enough lateral pressure on it to make this happen. So, this is not something I would recommend if you are going to be regularly swapping the drive out. That said, this product worked surprisingly well. It was extremely easy to set up, the button worked like a charm and the USB cable seemed to be of premium qualtiy (though I wished it was a little longer.

Decent product for the cost. Going 2 years strong.
Best value external drive container I've ever had. This is lightweight, but durable. Though it lacks a fan, which would make it best overall for both HD types, it does well enough. I have a HD disk in it now. It's been there sitting on top of my tower for over a year. No disk heat stress detected, and I use it primarily for graphic heavy games. Overall: It is compatible with both hard drive types, but best for SSD. The installation is plug-and-play, which is hard to mess up, but I'm positive someone will. The design is mediocre, but the power light may be disturbing for some, so I would suggest covering that with a cloth (just the button), or placing the enclosure out of sight, but with decent ventilation.

Would definitely buy again
Does the job. Switch and LEDS are handy. The lid is a little tight when sliding on/off but shaved the nubs down with an exacto to remedy that.

easy to use
This is a nice enclosure, feels really solid getting the cover off and on can be tricky if you are near sighted or have big sausage fingers like me It's speed seems correct for drive using can be used for sata 2.5inch drives if you have a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter or are careful about moving it. I like the extra feature added to power too it to use installed hard drive into enclosure connect usb cord to computer and enclosure connect power to enclosure press button to turn on (it lights up and blinks when being used)

Pretty Good, Mostly
Works well at a very good price. Of course, the "very good price" comes at its own cost, requiring the user to make some allowances for matters not up to snuff: 1. Amazingly, the instructions never say anything about inserting the drive into the enclosure, skipping over that small matter entirely. Half a point deduction for this silly oversight. 2. It requires considerable effort to claw the enclosure open even when following the direction in the matter is carefully observed. The next time, it's easier, probably because the skids have been greased, so to speak. Half a point deduction for this. 3. A/c plug is a large, bulbous kind that occupies too much space on an outlet bar. This could have been avoided and should have been. A point deducted for this inconvenience. I'm anxious to see how it holds up. I'd recommend handling it carefully, given that this plastic item is OK but not likely to sustain any sort of trauma uncracked. Also, I've found a protective case here on Amazon, now on order, that will accommodate its outer dimensions, something like the protective cases available for typical external drives---only, of course, they are not so big.

Try this before buying the expensive kind.
This saved me tons of money. I used an old hard drive from a previous computer. Formatted it and whalla!!!
