1/3 of classic cinematic teen love triangle, but an ICON should read better
It's James Dean, I mean, I had to. I don't know what it is with Funko, but they seem to struggle with getting a good feel for some of the vintage (um, dead's probably ok to say) stars. The Monroe one was atrocious. This one is.... ok I guess. But the more you look at it, the more it resembles an extra from Grease rather than the mighty Jim Stark. I know the head shape is what it is, but if we've learned anything from Drag Race, it's that a good contour can work miracles. The hair's not "proportion-ized" enough either. And should look more slick. A bit higher and a bit less bushy on the sides. The worry lines, fine, they indicate a lot, but with the big head covering the small body, the iconic outfit gets the short end of the stick. And in my mind is probably used on many, many other Pops....maybe the entire Grease cast? Lastly, could we have the rest of the doomed love triangle? Sure, Natalie Wood may come out looking like Natalie Portman, but the mighty Sal Mineo as Plato deserves his day in plastic (vinyl?). And besides, he could be wearing Stark's jacket, with those gorgeous eyes of his and that sad, lost look he captured so beautifully. I know that would be Funko gold. But I think for now we're just getting Danny Zuko, I mean......it's ok. Look, it's ok. No more. Thank god the box says who it is, otherwise.... and I wonder, do they have rights only to the characters names, not the deceased actors? My husband said, "who the F is Jim Stark"? Granted, he's not the type to remember character names even if they were brought to life by the tragic, gorgeous young men who portrayed them. James Dean, I said. "Oh, what movie?" he continued... Sorry Funko.
