Good sound quality for a live recording, the acoustic atmosphere is very good
A very good live acoustic recording with an intimate atmosphere which captures the sense of presence and being there.I have not set out to write reviews of the music content as “beauty is in the ears of the listener”. These reviews are about the quality (or not) of the recorded sound. To read about how the reviews are done please see my profile. • Clarity – very good, no muddiness, excellent tone and detail • Channel separation – very good • Channel balance – conventional as would be expected • Sound Stage – reasonable, not the widest but to be expected given the limited instrumentation. It is an intimate sound stage • Distortion – non audible • Compression – good highs and lows, no frequency flattening or loss audible • Atmosphere – very good, the feeling of a live set comes across very well and the recording has an intimate feel. The audience is well recorded and not overly intrusive • Bass – low frequencies – very good given that this is an acoustic set. The bass elements are clear and distinct • Treble – high frequencies – this together with the midrange is where this recording excels, it is warm and detailed. The string resonance from the acoustic instruments is clearly audible • Vocals Clapton’s vocals are never the greatest but on this recording they have good warmth and detail. The female backing vocals are just that, a little too far back.As a general rule of thumb recordings from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s are nearly always better on the original vinyl. Remasters often fail to please as it’s just not possible to make a silk purse from a sows ear, i.e. the original recording lacks the necessary detail to be processed digitally and show an audible improvement. Indeed such processing can make the sound worse.Modern recordings which have been processed digitally from start to finish can be as good as vinyl. CD’s are often unfairly criticised for being poor quality. This is not the case, it is the original recording or the process which is to blame. Modern “remasters” can both enhance and degrade a recording. The statement GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) is the limiting factor. Ignore this at your cost.

Greatest Live Album Of All Time
Eric Clapton's "MTV Unplugged" is nothing short of a masterpiece. Opening with the short instrumental Clapton and the band quickly set the tone for the blues standards. I bought this album for "Layla" but the entire album is a joy to listen to with "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out" and "Before You Accuse Me" Clapton's phenomenal guitar solos makes you feel like your front at the concert. Clapton and the band are showcasing the magic that only happens at live events. MTV do a tremendous job at releasing these types of albums. The audience is applauding passionately after each track and offering a standing ovation after the performance. During the show, i could actually hear a pin drop in the small theatre when listening through my KEF LS50's. This is the greatest live album I have ever heard and I'm very happy to recommend it to any audiophile or Eric Clapton fans.MUST BUY!

It like beeing there!!
As a collector of vynl alot of the repressed vynl is way under par and alot are coming in warped this beeing due to the speed of packing up the vynl for retailers and not cooling the discs down long enoughHowever on the plus side alot of what I've baught new is excellent this and I mean this beeing possibly the best! By far .Blown away wasn't the word the quality of the press.. well what can I say .Its like sitting there live from the breath on the mic to the hand slaps on his acoustic guitar its astonishing it recorded high its powerful dynamic and crystal clear if you into vynl and have decent kit then what your reading her canot be denied.

Wonderful songs and acoustic playing that is top notch
Unplugged is for me, one of the best albums that EC has produced and is a great tribute to his playing and that of the band. He has surrounded himself with great musicians and it really shows in every part of the album. This not just about EC. He allows lots of solo contributions from others and he showcases other composers in a mix of different styles which make for a varied and eclectic album. Great stuff

Great album, quality pressing
Having recently got back into Vinyl after several years of listening to CD's and streamed music, I decided there were a select few albums that warranted being in my vinyl collection and Eric Clapton Unplugged is one that definitely needed inclusion. This is a 180g pressing and it is absolutely superb! There's something about the sound, the size and artwork of an LP that CD's lack. I also love that anticipation when the stylus lowers onto the album and then the music starts. I'm pleased with this purchase and the price I paid (about £16) wasn't overly expensive. This version is the single album which, I think, misses out one track over the double album that is also available, but, this one suited my needs. Highly recommended.
