Castles In The Sky tells the previously untold remarkable story of the fight to invent RADAR by Scotsman Robert Watson Watt and a team of British scientists. It conveys the genuine human drama behind the invention which saved the nation in the Battle of Britain .

A fascinating story about the invention of Radar.
There is nothing to dislike and everything to like. Eddie Izzard gives a superb performance as Robert Watson Watt as do the other actors. It is an incredible story about the invention of radar and the persistence of Robert Watt against the odds and the snobbish bureaucracy. Not from the Oxbridge fraternity but from one of the Scottish Universities and a meteorologist. How could he persuade the authorities to take his idea seriously. Watt and his small team are given derelict mediocre buildings and little funding to do their experiments, but they persevere and get the basic system going. The bureaucrats are much against the idea, but then Churchill gets involved and he approves the development program. The team then move into a large and well equipped old school and receive the funding they wanted. This where the development really gets going. There is more, but you should see it to make up your own minds.

Worth watching.
Mr Izzard is a very good actor regardless of his other interests. Enjoyed this look at the development of RADAR and found it both informative and entertaining. Lindeman is included as a character and I had hoped to see the vastly more capable RV Jones portrayed but maybe that would not be historically accurate.I missed this when it was on TV and am very pleased to now have this excellent DVD.

Excellent Film
I really enjoyed this when I saw it on television so bought the DVD. I enjoyed it just as much the second time round. No over -the-top unrealistic CGI special effects or super heroes flying around. Just super heroes on the ground making you feel proud to be British.

A good laugh in the “Dad’s Army” style
A good laugh in the “Dad’s Army” style. So long as you treat it as entertainment and don’t confuse it with the real history, or the real Watson Watt, its quite enjoyable. But it’s nothing like the true story of the birth of the Chain Home system.

Corrupted DVD
Extremely disappointing. DVD totally corrupted after 15 minutes viewing.Skipped on to further chapters and all corrupted.I wanted a replacement, but it seems I have to jump through many hoops to return it before a replacement will be sent.Really bad!

Great little gem
Really good BBC quality made for TV film. The story of radar as you never knew it. The spark that set off the vision then the politics, sweat and tears on a tiny budget that made it happen. And how it nearly didn't.I much preferred it to the much more commercial and Hollywood targeted 'Imitation game' as a credible account, elegant construction (a straight narrative line), how it played up the human factors: The different issues, agendas, pressures and deadlines. And finally the round up of how it ended for everyone. The amazon streaming and download is fine and normal HD resolution like to my 21" PC screen (though I've not yet played it on my Fire).

a good piece of history
I thought the acting was mach better than I expected by all of the cast. I was unaware of the technical link between television and radar.
