I have looked for a long time trying to find a good, inexpensive method to lock a bulldog hitch. This collar is very simple, it clamps around the hitch sleeve preventing it from moving. Almost any normal padlock will work.

Nice stainless steel material and the casting quality is great. I have a nice stock trailer with a 2" bulldog hitch which works great EXCEPT there is no elegant way to securely lock it when it is hooked up. I did make my own sleeve-type protector which uses a disc padlock for when it's parked but the long skinny lock pin that secures the hitch when connected defies any elegant way of locking it for theft protection. This hitch lock replaces the pin with a collar that locks on over that whole area. I thought it would pair great with my heavy duty armored lock with 1/2" armored pin. Unfortunately the hole in this collar is just under 1/2" When they say 0.47" they mean it. (It's 12mm) Simple - just drill it out you say but when you drill something that close to the finished size the drill bit wants to grab like crazy. I tried it with a stubby 1/2" bit turning by hand and broke the bit off. So I happened to have a 1/2" carbide endmill and that did the trick turning at a fairly high speed in the drill-mill machine. The SS material is tough to cut which is great for the intended purpose. Now the lock fits perfectly. I should be good to go as long as no lock-picking lawyer fan goes after me. My only other gripe is the hinge. Is is made flush with the diameter of the collar so it is definitely a weak point. The pivot pin can't be more than about 6mm. I would like to see that area beefed up to be as strong as the rest of the collar. There is no reason it can't be thicker at the pivot.

Not the most secure thing out there

I recently had an equipment trailer stolen and had it actually chained to a tree with a HD log chain on a job site. They just hooked to the hitch and drove off breaking the log chain. So I've been looking & searching for a better way to lock up my trailer and when I saw this lock and it's design and the way it's used to secure trailer, I had to have it & ordered. This lock fits the neck of my bulldog hitch perfectly and it's strong. I actually took a sledge hammer and was beating on it to see if it bends or etc.,it never fazed it. It's made of very thick forged stainless steel and when it is locked in place on the tongue, I don't see anyway for anyone to get it undone and just drive off. Because when it's attached & locked, it's got the jaws locked closed on tongue, whether it's hooked up to truck or just sitting unhooked. So it works actually in (2) ways. I like the hidden hinged design as when it's closed/locked, no way to even pry on it even with a crow bar. A hammer won't faze it. Now I sleep better, knowing it's secured at night.Glad to have ordered it. I give this good strong lock a (5) star rating

Here's a bulldog trailer hitch lock that secures my trailer from being disconnected or connected when installed. It's a very simple design, being when deployed, it prevents the coupler slide to be moved by replacing the security pin that does the same...It does provide a solid thief deterrent for sure, but keep in mind, it's only as strong has the actual padlock you use!Overall, it would have been much better if a padlock was included with this purchase at $76.80 at the time of writing this review, hence the star deductions...

I had never seen this design coupler lock before, and to me it is a big improvement over the very bulky alternatives out there. I particularly like the fact that it can accept a very heavy duty padlock, so would be thieves will have to come well prepared if they want to steal my trailer.

I had never seen this style of lock before but I like it. Most of the trailer locks are made of what appears to be a zinc alloy and could be defeated with some strong blows from a hammer. This is stainless steel, so it won't rust and it won't break if you beat on it.I also like its simplicity. For my expensive trailer, its well worth it!
