Will this work? It looks like the right connections** A: That's exactly my situation. The monitor only has VGA input (the larger plug) and the laptop only has HDMI output (the smaller plug). This cable worked perfectly - the only thing I had to do was to reduce the screen resolution to the monitor as the laptop was sending out a signal with a higher resolution than the monitor could display. Once I'd done that, I was sorted. :-) **Q: Does it work both ways** A: Not quite sure on question? The HDMI end will connect to HDMI source (xbox/PlayStation etc). The VGA connects to monitor, this then turns monitor into a HDMI source to view xbox/PlayStation etc. **Q: Can I connect old sky box with smart TVs hdmi ?** A: No sorry **Q: Does it make the sound come out of the tele?** A: No sound, the VGA connector that connects to the monitor/tv doesn't carry any sound signals.
