This unit is perfect for my digital storage. 6 bays for HDD and two bays for SSDs. 2.5gbps network adapters make it fast across my home network. Running qnap container station allows for numerous network utilities such as pihole to keep my home network free of ads. Make sure to have it hooked up to a UPS to protect it from any spikes/outage in the power. This will help protect the device and the data.

Performance and Speed One of the first things I appreciated was the 2.5GbE network connectivity. It’s a huge step up from the gigabit port on my 453A. With compatible switches and cabling, I’ve seen dramatic improvements in transfer speeds across my local network. Whether I'm streaming 4K media, moving large RAW photo files, or backing up machines, the difference is real and consistent. Expandability and Future-Proofing What really sets the TS-464 apart is its expandability. The 8GB of RAM (upgradable to 16GB) gives me the flexibility to run more apps simultaneously—something I felt limited by on the 453A. The M.2 NVMe slots allow for SSD caching, which significantly speeds up access to frequently used files and apps. There's also a PCIe slot, which opens the door for further upgrades like a 10GbE network card or additional storage interfaces. Software and Features QTS has matured a lot over the years, and on this hardware, it runs smooth and fast. From multimedia streaming with Plex, to backup routines with HBS3, to containerized apps and virtual machines—this NAS handles it all with ease. The integrated HDMI port is still a nice touch for local playback or dashboard display. Build Quality and Design The TS-464 feels solid and well-built. I am a home use/small business user and this is my second QNAP. My first is still fully functional after 5 years. The set-up was easy, installation of hardware was a snap. Within 3 days I was fully functional on all my connected devices. Video streams without a hiccup over mobile internet connections. QNAP support responds within a day via portal and are clear in their answers. It does have two RAM slots. I am currently running 24 GB RAM. per support it can hold up to 36 GB RAM which far exceeds my needs as it has m.2 and I do not use this as a plex server. I do stream a fair amount of video content for my teaching endeavors. 1 year update - As with all things some growing pains. QNAP always returned my support ticket and even set up a call. Although I can't stream videos as fast as I like (there is likely a way just not one I know) the NAS has been EXCELLENT. QNAP also has been EXCELLENT. It really just works and I forget about it yet still have the backup immediately available from my tablet or phone. Also I have video feeds save and synch from the studio. So when I get to the upstairs editing room the video is already on my workstation. No more transferring to USB sticks !!
