You should be able to make a really nice guitar with this kit
This guitar kit is as expected. The body and neck have all the holes and pockets machined and fret board and frets installed. It does need a lot of sanding and leveling compound applied to the mahogany back and neck to fill the porous texture and a little adjustment to how the neck fits into the body. All of this is to be expected it is a kit and they have done a lot of the work for you but you should expect to do all the prep work before applying the finishing. The hardware is not top of the line but that is not to be expected for the price. You should be able to make a really nice guitar with this kit, but as stated you need to do prep work before slapping on finish or stain as with any wood working project. There is glue over runs that need sanded off, binding that needs trimmed down, leveling compound is needed in order to achieve a smooth finish, sanding - sanding -sanding to get small imperfections out and get the sufaces ready for stain and what ever finish

I finished this kit and I am satisfied with the result
I finished this kit and I am satisfied with the result. I did buy Gibson pickups and installed quality pots and strings. A word of caution regarding some of the kits from China. Some require moving the neck back about an 1/8" from where they would have you install it in order for it to achieve intonation. Easy to do but will require you filling in the gaps that are created by thisprocedure. A small sliver of wood in two spots will take care of the problem. Be sure you measure from nut to center of nearest bridge post to assure that it measures correctly to allow intonation. My sources tell me it should measure 24 and 13/16". Using that measurement my build turned out fine with no intonation problems. I mention it only to alert you that your kit may not be entirely accurate in this regard and once you glue the neck in you're out of luck if it's wrong.

This is a bad product
I bought this and when I had the whole thing together and built correctly I tried to string it. I tried to put the strings on and the whole neck was in the way. I had it set like it was supposed to be but it was obviously cut wrong and the whole $150 project was ruined and the guitar is not going to be able to work.

Quailty is not the first thing for whoever is the examiner.
Well if the neck fit proper I would not complain as everything else is ok. I will have to make shims and use extensive glue or putty to get a proper fit for the socket of the neck. Other than that I have no complaints.

Great guitar kits for the money
These LP style guitar kits are great for the money. The included bag of parts didn't really add any large value to the kit, as I upgraded almost all of the hardware and pickups, only using the stock bridge, tailpiece and plastics. I installed CTS 500k pots, .022 Sprague Orange Drop caps and GFS Fat Pat humbuckers in 50's style wiring configuration. It took a lot of time, patience, trial and error, but I ended up with a great playing and sounding guitar for around $350 total. The neck tenon fit perfectly in the neck pocket with no modification, however, I did have to do extensive fret work. The thing that impressed me most about this kit is the 1/4 inch thick maple cap. Most kits have a thin maple veneer glued on a thick mahogany body, but the GK004's have a mahogany back topped with a maple cap, and a flamed maple veneer on top of the cap. Please check out my pics of my finished kit.

Keep your expectations in check, put some sweat into it, and you will be pleased.
I bought this kit mostly for the neck and body, as I will be replacing/upgrading a lot of the hardware and electronics. I bought this knowing it would take a lot of work to get it to where I wanted it, and I had realistic expectations going in. With that in mind, I feel it's worth the money for the wood alone. That said, expect to do a large amount of sanding and wood prep. Also be aware that the veneer top is super thin, and on mine, was not glued down super well. During the process of dying the wood and applying tru oil, several buckles formed in the veneer, which I later had to perform surgery on and do a lot of cleanup work. I'm about 75% done with the kit, having the finish just about wrapped up and the neck glued in. Just don't expect a flawless kit to arrive—it takes some real work, and if you go into it with those expectations, it's a great deal!
