I LOVED this book! It is absolutely captivating, well written and for those who are busy and tend to lay books down for a few days between readings, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU! Every chapter is independent of the others! The author writes in a way that we are RIGHT THERE and oh my my - there is LOTS of excitement!I have sent many copies as gifts.

Tree Climbing Adventures From All Over the World With Focus on Tropics
Enjoyable descriptions of tall tree climbing with good details describing the eco systems the trees are part of. Fascinating descriptions of how orangutans and gorillas get high up in trees to find fruit. Some dicey canopy adventures with winds, thunder, birds of prey, angry chimps, and stinging insects. Sometimes getting to the tree is difficult with encounters with leopard, elephant, and falling objects. Very interesting read.

As a recreational tree climber, I enjoyed the vivid details and the writer's unwavering passion for being amongst the trees.
This book is an inspiration to all recreational tree climbers. It brings us into the trees and along on the climbs, from amazing locations, all around the world. Learnng to connect with nature and appreciating the many broad differences and similarities, from location to location, is what each chapter brings to the forefront.

What a great read!
One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. A page-turner. Fascinating treks into forest and jungle with a guy who knows how to articulate his love of his chosen career.

Better than science fiction.
Wow! Be transported to a whole new world. The canopies of trees in tropical rainforests have creatures and plant life that is unimaginable. From Brazil nuts to harpy eagles, there is never a dull moment.

Worth reading for forest and tree enthusiasts
Only the second book I've found that describes the life found up in the branches of trees, and thus worth reading to me. The writing is pretty pedestrian, and at times it seems more like a book about what kind of bugs are biting him or what kind of ghastly things are burrowing under his skin or attacking him. He has a tendency to skip around the parts of each story that don't directly involve his climbing, resulting in adventures that build up and then disappear, leaving the reader, uh, hanging. (Sorry.) Not much in the way of science here. That said, he seems like a very nice guy who's led an amazing life in the trees, doing the thing that he loves, and the story was definitely worth sharing with us more earth-bound specimens. The chapter about trying to put a camera in a bird's nest was worth the price of the book. Recommended if you're interested in trees or forests--or horrible bugs or parasites. As far as the kindle format of the book, it was sufficient--didn't notice a lot of typos or format problems--however, all the photographs are grouped into one section in the middle, and it's hard to appreciate them that way, without knowing what they're referring to. And of course they're small and in black and white, which is a universal issue with this reading format.

The author's profession is one that is rare, dangerous and fascinating.
I can't say there was anything to dislike about this book. The author's introduction as a 16 year old to tree climbing in the New Forest and then progressing to adventures in exotic locations around the world spiced with danger are enthralling. The author not only succeeds in conveying his enthusiasm for his profession but he also writes with a genuine feel for words.

An unexpected page turner
Sometimes books of this nature can be a bit of a slog to get through with a few interesting bits to make it worthwhile. This was the opposite - a total page-turner. James' adventures up in trees across the world have been a totally wild ride. His writing style is really engaging and his life has been incredible. It really got me itching to go travelling again (only without any of the itchy stuff that he encountered!).

Change your worldview!
This book is the true story of a man who spends most of his time in the tops of trees. His worldview is from the top canopy of trees! He gives a lot of detail if the reader is interested in how he gets up those trees. He talks about the tallest trees in the world (which have names...something I did not know!) and about very specialized and different types of trees in different parts of the world. Its a wonderful uplifting read. For those that love trees and nature this is a book for you!

Didn’t Disappoint ***
Having recently read Goshawk Summer, by the same author, I was anxious that this may not be as engrossing - thankfully I was very wrong. This book not only takes us on a world journey but helps enormously to make real the problems the natural world is enduring clear for us to see. The love and respect for trees and the environment shine through in a contagious way, It is a brilliantly enjoyable read.
