Game-Changer for Sensitive Skin and Coarse Hair
I'm a 48-year-old man with sensitive skin and coarse facial hair, and shaving has always been a struggle—especially on my chin. Unless I spent a lot of time prepping (hot towel for 3 minutes, pre-shave cream, premium shaving cream), I’d end up with red patches and irritation.I've been using a double-edge safety razor with Feather blades, and even with all the right techniques—short strokes, light pressure, rinsing frequently, multiple passes—I’d still get irritation. I often had to do second or third passes just to get a close shave, which only made things worse. I love the process of a wet shave, but I was seriously considering giving up and just growing a beard. That’s when I came across this razor and decided to give it a shot. I was intrigued by the 30-degree angled head that helps maintain the correct shaving angle, and the fact that it’s described as "mildly aggressive."I’m so glad I rolled the dice. Before trying it, I had several days of growth because of the irritation from my last shave. I skipped the usual 3-minute hot towel and went straight into my normal two-pass routine with short strokes. The results were incredible. The razor is incredibly forgiving and smooth on the skin. There was a little redness, but I’m sure that was from skipping my usual prep and having several days of growth. The best part? Within 10 minutes of applying aftershave, the redness was completely gone—and for the first time in a while, no red patches on my chin. This razor is lightweight but glides beautifully. It’s easily the most comfortable and effective shave I’ve had in years. I only wish I had found it sooner.

A great safety Razor for Getting into Double Edge Razors/Wet Shaving
As a guy closing in on 50, shaving has always been something I've taken for granted and never considered spending more time than necessary. Disposable razors and Barbasol foam fit the bill and got the job done. This Hansen Razor was a Father's day gift from my oldest son, who did the research on razors and "wet shaving". It has been a quality of life game changer! While I could opine on the Proraso Green shave products in another review (they're great), the benefits of an Alum block, as well as my experience with various razor blades (Bic Platinum, Shark Stainless and Gillette "no-name" have worked best for me, but YMMV), I'll stick with just my thoughts on the Hansen Razor. The Hansen Razor, AL-13 Mild, has made the transition to double-edge from disposable razors pretty easy. The longer handle fits your hand similarly to a disposable razor, and the aluminum alloy gives it a similar weight. The real engineering feat with this razor is that it holds any blade at the right angle making it east to engage a close shave, making it very forgiving in allowing you to get a close shave coming from disposable razors. Unlike Cartridge and disposable Razors, Double-Edge razors do not have a pivot head, so shaving requires some practice to getting under the chin, nose, behind the ear etc... I've never had any "incidents" shaving, other than a nick or two with blades that weren't a good fit for me. Over the last few months, my technique has improved. The RK Blades that come with the Hansen Razor, ironically, have been the worst ones, but it seems that the best blade for your skin may vary. If you purchase this razor, I'd suggest getting a DE Razor assortment to see what blades work best for you. With the right blades, the Hansen AL-13 shaves as well, and more gently, than the disposable razors I've used through the years. I recently added a Parker 4 piece travel razor which is more "aggressive" to my shave kit (it shaves closer, have had slightly more razor burn using the same razor), and can see where the Hansen is more forgiving while still giving a close shave. I'll note for this review, there is a Hansen AL-13 Medium razor, and with my experience with the travel razor, I would likely have been as comfortable had the AL-13 medium been purchased instead.Overall, you cannot go wrong with the Hansen AL-13 as your first, or only, double edge razor. It's made my daily shaving experience on par with the straight edge shaves I used to enjoy when I lived in NYC at a fraction of the price and on a daily basis. Shaving is now something that "I get to do", rather than something "I have to do". If you're looking to get into double edge razors, this Hansen is a great place to start!

Well, this was entirely unexpected.
I saw this product in a YouTube ad, and ignored it -- since I hadn't shaved in probably 15 years. But a few things from that ad spot stuck with me: the tight engineering tolerances, and safety, the cleanliness, the simplicity.Fast forward a few months, and I'm at the DMV, getting a new picture for my license. The very nice gentleman at the DMV shows me my picture, side-by-side with the previous one. I say, "Wow, I look older." -- his reply is, "Well, let me tell you, I've been doing this a long time, and nobody ever looks younger."It's not that I'm afraid of aging, but it'd also been a long time since I'd seen my face. It's been so long that my wife has never seen my face. My son has never seen my face.Last night, when I was laying in bed thinking about all this, I decided to order the Henson Shaving Razor. It came with free overnight delivery -- cool! The packaging is nothing fancy - a simple box, with the razor inside and a small box of 5 double edge razor blades. As soon as I picked up the razor, I was impressed. It is lightweight, it is striking -- unlike any other razor. It feels substantial, but comfortable to hold, because of its weight. It is easy and obvious to assemble. And using it it obvious as well (to me, anyway). I wet my face down and began using it -- slowly, because I have a lot of hair.By the time I was done, I was more than a little shocked. I wound up changing that first blade, because I put it through its paces. But the "closeness" of the shave that I achieved is absolutely insane. I can rub anywhere on my face with the back of my hand, in any direction, and not feel stubble. I was in the military, a lifetime ago, and I never got a shave this close.I love that this razor is made in Canada, that it's made with quality, and that those claims I heard in the ad were NOT just claims -- it's all true. The tolerances of this razor are a little ridiculous. The Henson razor holds that blade exactly where it needs to be, every time. The blade cannot shift forward or back, so it will ALWAYS deliver a perfectly consistent shave, no matter which side is being used.I am really, truly blown away by this product. And I'm thrilled that it'll last me a lifetime.Thank you, Henson!
