I was concerned about how easy/hard it would be open and close the umbrella, as this is a gift for my mom and she has some arthritis in her hands. I am pleased to report this umbrella opens and closes very easily. I feel certain she will have no trouble with it. The hand will work well to hang the unbrella on your arm when closed, but I can't imagine it fitting on an average person's wrist tighly enough to hold it open. It is still a good handle though. The umbrella will stand on it's own if it's not completed closed and fastened.
