Excellent compendium of mountaineering, updated for modern techniques and tools. The perfect gift for those novice or aspiring mountaineers. Too basic for the gray beards. I bought my first copy in the early 1980's. This copy is a gift to my grandson.

The greatest guide you can ever purchase. I bought it for an Eagle Scout pinning ceremony and I don't think I have ever seen him this happy.This guide provides you with everything you need to know, great for everyone.

The 10th edition is great. It is loaded with the basics for wilderness travel and survival.

The best book and instructional manual on climbing I've seen. Everything you need to know from start to finish on climbing in all environments. Was a little light in the self top roping but the rest was outstanding. Images and descriptions were top notch for the purpose.

I bought this for my husband, and he has not put it down. He reports it's the most complete mountaineering guide he has read. The information is current, the illustrations are detailed, and he can't wait to get out there. That's a 5 star for him and a 5 star for making me look good.

This is the mountaineering Bible for any mountaineer. I have two versions of this printed book. It is such a massive collaboration of many people over many decades and they update it every few years. I used it to start my mountain climbing hobby. I have many large mountains in my sights. Mountaineering school starts next week.
