Organic Chemistry Molecular Model Kit - 239 Pieces

Good kit for organic class. Easy to build and take apart models. Can be used to built reasonably sized molecules. Holding up well so far. Can make space filling models or indicate double and triple bonds with flexible sticks.

I bought this for my high school aged daughter who is in AP Chemistry. She uses chemistry model kits in class to help with learning, and finds it so helpful she wanted one of her own. She knows she will get a lot of use with it for school work now and in the future as she wants to study chemistry in college. She also just likes to play with it haha. The pieces are constructed very nicely and fit together perfectly. There's even a little tool piece to help take the pieces apart which is handy. Everything is of excellent quality. HOWEVER, I will agree with all of the other reviewers who commented on the box not being big enough to hold all the pieces and close properly. This is 100% true. It's so odd how they are even trying to get all of these pieces into this box. I don't even think the box will stay closed well with it being empty! Such a strange design. We are buying another latching container to put this in. I'm still happy with the kit, but just know you'll need another storage solution.

I cannot recommend this set enough. It is so much better than the set that was recommended to me in my syllabus, which was more expensive and somehow was more cheaply made. The set that was recommended to me was cold, boring, and made the subject even scarier. It was so hard to use that many students never used it. The Old Nobby kit? It’s incredibly intuitive to use, fun, and takes the fear away from organic chemistry immediately. As you go through your textbook you’ll say “Oh I can’t wait to build this!” Buy this set. The first time you build cyclohexane or benzene, the first time you perform a chair flip, the first time you build acetylene, the first time you build ethylene and see how everything comes into the same plane, organic chemistry suddenly CLICKS. For a class as challenging as orgo, you can’t put a price on something like this.

Good kit but if you are buying it for ochem it's not nessary. I've hardly used it.

I am taking Orgo 1 now and this kit is perfect. My professor has us use it to model structures in class and even on exams. My friends with slightly cheaper kits have had some trouble, but this is kind of the right balance between sturdy and not-too-expensive. Highly recommend. It also comes with a stencil for organic chemistry shapes which I didn't realize and is really nice. All of the bits also have resealable plastic bags which is helping me keep it organized. The lid of the box doesn't stay on without rubber bands though which makes it a bit of a hassle to carry around.

My son uses this for his organic chemistry class. He says it’s been extremely helpful while studying. It’s easy to use and has enough pieces for what he needs.

This was definitely useful when I first started learning chemical structures, as learning how atoms interact in three dimensions can be difficult to understand at first when just using 2D projections on paper. I haven't found much use for them outside of my first chemistry classes, but the kit is also just fun to mess around with and display your favourite molecule on your desk, for example. The pieces are easy to fit together and connect with single or double bonds, and are easy to take apart and store. There are several different colours to act as different elements, but you should be able to figure out how to pick a substitute for elements that are missing (send me a message if you need help with this).

Good quality and correct bonds, a good started kit. My son loves it.

Great molecular kit! Helped me a lot when I took ochem! This helps A LOT with drawing molecular structures with the right stoichiometry. Had this for a few months, and nothing broke; everything's still in excellent condition. There are even some very useful stencils, which I think is a great addition and saves time during the exams or if you're doing some ochem coursework under pressure! Highly recommend!

Received the product in good condition. The quality is as expected. But the delivery is much delayed and reached 2 weeks after promised delivery date.

I am a chemistry teacher and found that this is a great product students at a very reasonable price. It has just enough units to make small molecules with varying bond types and it can accommodate VSEPR shapes which is most helpful. The kit came nicely packaged and included a nice molecule stencil (shown in picture). The quality of the links and spheres feels durable. Typically my students would use the kits we have in the classroom, but with COVID and at-home learning, I have encouraged them to find a kit to keep at home for themselves. Of course, if you are looking to create large molecules (great than 15 carbons) or multiple carbon molecules at once, then you will need a larger kit.
