The PL8 plate only holds the pipes in place but doesn't make the watertight connection itself. If you already have plastic pipe in place I would fit a short length of copper to make the connection to the shower bar. **Q: Is this pl8 for an exposed bar valve?** A: Yes, I mounted it on the wall and tiled over it, keeps the pipework at the standard gap for most exposed combination showers. **Q: What are the fittings on the back of the plate? Elbows? Compression?** A: they are a type of compression - they compress a rubber O ring on to the pipe to hold the pipe at 150mm c-c and perpendicular to the wall. they won't stop a pipe rotating if using a compression fitting on to the shower bar.
