This is exactly what I have needed for a long time. Many times when I go to the market, the items I need or want are on the top shelf or way in back of other shelves, and I can't reach them. This little tool is only about 4 inches long with a pocket clip on it. It fits in my shirt pocket with no problem, and when I need to reach something, I just extend it out to its entire length of 18 inches. It has a very small hook on the end and I put it on the back of the item I want and pull forward. It would be better if the hook was a little bigger, but the tool is designed (I believe) to pull wire out from inside a wall.

Compact reach gadget that is handy for light weight grabbing. I wish it lock in place for more than just straight pulling; It retracts when you push. The size of device is ideal and I have use for it. A updated version with twist and lock extensions would be great, hint hint.
