One of the best bits of kit ever
Like Paddybhoy, I read the review in the Mail on Sunday magazine. I then looked on Amazon to see if anyone had reviewed it and saw Paddybhoy's review. So I told my partner that I'd like one for my birthday. But... he didn't seem to get the hint so I bought it anyway. Unknown to me, he bought a completely different one here but in my favourite colour (purple) and one that's a lot smaller than the Altec. So I gave them both a go. The purple one was very funky and had touch sensitive controls. Very impressive. The sound quality was pretty good too for such a small gadget. However, two major problems with it: I couldn't get my iPhone in it without taking off the bottom part of the protective case AND there was major sound interference when the phone was looking for a signal - which it did a lot. So back it went. The Altec is light, easily portable, the sound quality is terrific especially for such a modest looking product. I disagree that it lacks bass - it's fine. You don't get any interference when your phone is looking for a signal and you don't have to take off the case. The only gripe I do have is that the controls are right behind the top of the phone so not as easily accessible as they could be. But as it's so good overall, I can happily ignore that.As for the lack of remote or radio - you don't need a remote if you're using it on batteries, only on the mains. It would be nice, but it's not a showstopper. And a radio - all you need do is download one of the many radio apps on iTunes and you've got one! When you compare this with Bose and the much more expensive options, it really holds its own and is a complete no-brainer if you can't afford the top-end kit. Buy it - you won't regret it. I didn't and am very happy to recommend it.

Great sound, awesome price, great battery life
After doing my research I am really pleased I chose this product.Having never owned products by, or actually heard of, Altec Lansing I was a little dubious but I looked at the reviews for a range of their products and they seemed to all be saying the right things. When my dock turned up I was impressed by the study build, decent finish and surprisingly good sound quality. Especially considering that this runs off batteries as well. I chose a dock with interchangeable batteries so that it could be used for camping etc knowing that I would be away from a charger for longer than any internal battery would be good for.It is clever enough to charge the device only when running off the mains and not when running off batteries, this does mean though that you will need a separate way of charging your device (a free loader solar charger is an excellent choice for this). I have also found that if you run it at mid volume the batteries are good for much longer than the stated 3 hours. The finish is not amazing but it is of good quality, the leather case / stand is great and a very nice touch. Overall it is very robust and feels like it could take some abuse without breaking. Ideal for something you want to be able to sling into the the bottom of your rucksack or car boot and not have to worry about breaking.

great piece of kit.
I bought an ipod dock some time ago, and it was awful. So when looking for a replacement, I was a bit more careful reading the reviews. This one seemed to be well liked, so I ordered one from Totally Mobile. It arrived within a few days, beautifully packed. When I unpacked it, I couldn't find the instruction book. This unit is so simple to set up, you won't need one. Simply plug it in, plonk your ipod on the socket, and turn it on. That's it, nothing else except to turn the volume up or down. And what a volume. You won't need full volume in a field. Indoors, it's staggering how powerful it is. No distortion unless you're deaf as a post. And you soon would be. Very acceptable base. Comes with a "leather" flap which folds underneath the unit to keep it upright. Someone's really given this baby some thought. When you switch it of, it parks your ipod track. When you switch on again, it starts from where it left off. Nice touch, they don't all do that. For the price, ( £ ), it's brilliant value. more than powerful enough to keep the party hopping, and yet not tinny at all. Highly recommended. Press the "buy now" button, you won't be sorry.

Altec Lansing IMT320 InMotion Compact Portable Universal Dock for iPod / iPhone 3G 3GS 4
I was wary about buying an iPod dock because I am used to a hifi and I didn't want to be disappointed when it comes to sound quality. The Altec seems to be very good for its size. There is a staggering amount of detail for such a small box. The treble is the key to this, very detailed and defined. The mids are also good and solid. The bass is definitely there and detailed (not boomy) but could be a bit more. It charges your iPhone / iPod if you are plugged into the mains which is useful. I also got over 24 hours continuous playback from a single set of 4 AA batteries. The leather built in case / stand is useful and pretty sturdy. On the top there is a power button that also controls the iPod and volume buttons that control the volume on the device rather than a separate speaker volume. Overall a very good portable speaker dock that packs a punch in the sound department and is small enough to fit under your arm.

Fantastic value for money
I bought this after looking at Bose and JBL on the strength of the reviews here, paid just under GBP 35, I didn't expect much for that but it is as good as systems that cost more than five times that! It's first use was for my sons 16th birthday party playing from an Ipod and various phones - it entertained fourteen teenagers perfectly well in a thatched barbecue area in South Africa 10 by 5 meters.I've taken to use it every day plugged into my Lenovo X230 Laptop using an aux out cable, the sound is far better than the stock speakers and it takes hardly any room on the desk right behind the laptop. It will be perfect for travel, to play music and for watching movies on the laptop with decent sound. It is light compact a good shape for packing and runnable on batteries.I'm so impressed I'm very likely to buy one of the higher end Altecs too.
