You'll be able to carry the Philips AVENT SCD510 with you wherever you go in your home. DECT TechnologyThe Philips AVENT advanced digital technology (DECT) in each product enables you to maintain a secure connection with your baby at all times. As well as crystal clear sound, these monitors guarantee no interference or interruption from any other product over a range of up to 330 meters.Your Baby and LightLight levels are important to your baby's comfort and development. That's why the Philips AVENT SCD510 comes equipped with a remote-operated night light that you can activate without being in the room, providing a calming distraction, allowing you to freely move around the room without disturbing baby's sleep patterns. After 9 months in your womb becoming accustomed to light takes time for a baby's incredibly sensitive eyes. As your baby's eyes start adjusting to light, a natural reaction is to close them if it is too bright. At the same time, small lights that gently stimulate the delicate optical nerves of baby's eyes will help them develop. The gentle night light on the Philips AVENT SCD510 soothes baby and helps undisturbed sleep. As your baby learns to tolerate stronger light, you can help them to differentiate between night and day. When your baby is sleeping, try keeping the room dimly lit to associate bedtime with night time. A baby's sleep is much lighter than an adult's and they may wake as often as 5 times a night. Having a night light will be a great comfort to you both, your baby will enjoy looking at any shapes made by a light, providing a calming distraction and helping them resettle and sleep more peacefully.A night light also means you don't have to switch on a main light, causing a disturbance to you both, while enabling you to see around their room.Your Baby and CryingCrying is the only way your baby has to communicate is he/she is hungry, wet, tired, too warm, too cold or a little scared. Through a monitor, it can at first be difficult to distinguish a cry of hunger from a cry of restlessness--the Philips AVENT SCD510 comes with crystal clear DECT sound to make it easier for you to learn what your baby is trying to tell you. You could try to start to understand the differences in your baby's communication:If they are making an 'owh, owh' sound, it could be that they are sleepy and a little grouchy, as this cry is based on a natural yawning reflex.A sound more like a 'neh, neh', is a cry that's based on the sucking reflex, so it's likely that your baby is hungry and would like feeding.Product HighlightsReassurance with Crystal Clear Sound DECT technology provides high quality, crystal clear sound so you can hear your baby anytime with perfect clarity--every tiny giggle, gurgle and hiccup.Adjustable Sound SensitivityAdjust sound and volume levels so you can keep up with baby.Always Know that You Are ConnectedParent unit will alert when the power is low or if you are out of range.LED Noise Level IndicatorLights are activated to indicate the level of sound in your baby's room, even if the volume is off.Soothing Night LightSoft glow comforts baby if she wakes.Guaranteed Zero InterferenceDECT technology guarantees zero interference from any other transmitting product like other baby monitors, cordless phones and mobile phones. Clear audio, good quality
The product consists of a baby unit which needs to be plugged into the wall or fitted with your own batteries and a parent unit which is already fitted with rechargable batteries. Unlike the baby unit the batteries of the parent unit will charge when you plug the unit in, although this seems to take many hours when we have done it. The night light is very usefull and we can tend to the baby in the night without having to turn on the main light. We don't need this function when using it in battery mode, but it works and can also be switched off to save on battery. There is a talk back function which works very well, but our baby is perhaps too young to take any notice and I wonder if he will ever be convinced by it, but then it is great for pranking your partner or even giving messages to each other. We live in a small modern flat so we have not had any problems with connection. We use it in the bedroom plugged in and on the balcony in battery mode (It is too cold to have the window open).Having used this product for only a few weeks now I can't vouch for the long term durability, but so far it seems like a very good product. It would have been great if the baby unit could charge batteries even if you had to supply the batteries (-0.1 stars here) and having ordered this from the continent it would have been great (and here I mean surpassing my expectaions) had we been sent a 2 pin EU plug version, or even just been given the option to add a converter to the order. 4.9 stars rounded up to 5 for a great value product.

What a disappointment!
Having recently destroyed our tried and tested Philips DECT baby monitor we had to get a new one. Our old Philips lasted for nearly 5 years and has been through two kids and has been easy to use and reliable.I expected a newer model to have improved features/performance. However, the Philips Avent SCD510 DECT range was a big disappointment. I'm not sure if this new version has less powerful transmitters/receivers than the old type, but the monitor had trouble keeping a signal in our house. When it loses it signal, the beeping alarm goes off and we would have to wonder around the house holding the monitor above our heads searching for a signal, followed by a gentle and prolonged walk back to our starting point! Yes, we do have an old house with thick walls, but the 5 year old monitor worked perfectly.I've had to send this back - it simply doesn't work unless you're in the next room. I thought the price was too good to be true for a DECT monitor!Summary: Might work in a newer house with thin walls but don't go near this if you have an older house/thicker walls.Build quality: ***Sound Quality: ***Battery: ****Range: *Features: ***

Small but not useful
I bought this baby monitor for about £33 in September 2010. I have gone through many reviews and researches before buying and this Philips Avent SCD510 DECT baby monitor came out as the best for my budget. The delivery and packaging was very good. The actual parent and baby monitor are quite small and the baby unit can be used with bateries only too so no wires and plugs needed if you travel or there is no socket near the baby cot. What I wasn't happy with as a parent was the volume of the parent unit. In short: it is not loud enough. And I have very good hearing! It would be alright for parents who want it for when the baby is crying his head off already. I like to prevent this hard crying and this baby monitor does not allow me to do this as I can't hear the baby being unhappy by making little noises and I can't get into the bedroom in time.Another feature I wasn't happy with was the parent unit battery life. It did not even last whole night! It has only a cable that you charge it with, no stand, but that's alright.I returned this monitor to Amazon and got a refund as this monitor was not useful at all. In a meantime I borrowed Angelcare monitor from a friend and it is brilliant! The transmission is not constant unlike the above monitor but a little bar and clear sound comes on when the baby starts moving. This way I know what is going on the baby's bedroom. It's loud enough and have many other features.Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this Philips Avent SDC510 baby monitor to any of you. Save yourself worrying and buy something reliable. In my case Angelcare.

NOT BAD AT ALL
Bought this in August, it served its purpose well whether we were at home (apartment) or visiting family in various houses BUT just recently it has stopped picking up the signal from my daughter's room unless she screams in her sleep at which point it activates itself 'after the fact' ... not very reassuring that. Now there is a deafening clicking coming from the remote unit which is in the sitting room with us; this lasts around half an hour as soon as the unit is switched on. Afterwards it hardly captures the signal. The worst thing is that it seems it is impossible to obtain redress (i.e. a replacement under guarantee) as Amazon only accepts returns to 30 days after purchase. So if you are thinking of buying one of these baby monitors, better check out reviews including comments on "durability" before making your choice.Having said all that we are now in August 2013 and the gadget against all expectations still works and most of the time transmits anything that needs to be heard.Better than we thought.
