Who Was Henry VIII?

Daughter loved! Interesting and educational at the same time!
This entire series of books is fantastic! We bought this one about Henry VIII as well as the one about Elizabeth I for our six-year-old daughter in advance of a trip to the UK. I was pleasantly surprised by how interested she was in these books and how much she retained. The book strikes an excellent balance between imparting fax and telling a story that a child can get interested in. We bought 6 or 8 other books on London/the UK/British history, and these (as well as the ones from Usborne Books) were far and away the best. Highly recommend!

Great read with your child
My 10 year old son and I love these books. Henry VIII is especially interesting to me. We read it straight through at bedtime and was able to finish it in 3 days. My son doesn’t like to read. Like AT ALL. BUT he learned so much from these books that it makes them enjoyable. Your kid can go to school confident who some of the greats of the world were and that’s enough for me.

always an interesting read
My daughter got into Henry VIII and his 6 wives so I turned to The Who Was series for her to learn more. Always a great go to option. We all learn something.

Read and teach your kids some fun history!
Love it! I was reading this to my son while he made us dinner tonight and it was so nice. You’ll have kids ask questions like why is a lord or a bishop so come prepared with responses.

Needs to be read with care
Although the book reads well and will hold a child's interest, it contains misleading or inaccurate statements. On p. 30, the author claims that "During Henry's time, Parliament only met occasionally." This statement ignores and distorts the significance of the Reformation Parliament. On p. 62, Parliament is incorrectly said to have granted Henry his divorce from Catherine. Throughout the text, Henry is pictured as absolute, ordering the execution of more than 70,000. Figure is in dispute, and even during the height of power, Henry kept alive the form of trial by jury, a consequential legacy.

Great read
Great read because it was written in an informative way and illustrated with lovely drawings. By the end of the book you will have a good understanding of Henry VIII the King of England. Good for children studying the Tudor period.
