Would this lock work to secure against theft the Tailgater satallite?

This was not a good product in any way shape or form. I purchased three of them for kayaks, and within a short period of time I could not get the key to turn. When one key broke off in the lock, all it took was a limb trimmer to cut it off. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

I assume 3/16" is the diameter of the steel cable. What is total diameter including vinyl coating?

It is exactly 3/16" including the vinyl coating.

Anybody have any suggestions when the lock will not open & the key is too thin to force it?

I would try pulling the wire as if you where trying to tighten it even if you only get it to move a little bit. Then try the key. If that doesn't work, grab the wire and pull. I snapped one and wasn't even trying. The weak point is the end of the wire that stays attached to the lock. It's soldered end will break.
