Todays US dealerships are selling rebranded FRAM filters which are not the best for your vehicle. Do some research and you’ll see what I’m talking about. The filters I bought are indeed what I was looking for.To identify a real OEM filter, there are a few things to look out for. Real Subaru of Japan filters will have the part number printed on the box, not a sticker. The glue on the top of the box will be dotted in two rows as seen in my pictures. On the filter itself, the plastic wrap will only cover the bottom, not the whole filter and a small punch in the middle of the wrapper will also be present. Most importantly it will be black and not blue. If you have a Subaru filter that does not match these details, it’s a fake and I’d return that before putting it on your vehicle. Now why is this so important? These filters are a much higher quality than the ones manufactured for US dealerships. Most are selling the blue ones which are rebranded FRAM filters and are extremely low quality. They also don’t provide the correct oil pressure your vehicle requires to last.
