Much easier to setup using the Windows app!
Since 1995 I've used many printers starting off with a Canon bubble jet. Since then I've used Brother, Canon, Lexmark and Epson. Admittedly for print quality Epson's sub lim dye is the best printing you're going to get. Their ink also lasts longer in regards to photo-life. As far as cost and availability of their ink at stores though is another question. Cost-wise they're all pretty much on par with each other for all brands these days. You can improve the print quality on Canon printers but you'll have to fool with the settings to get there which I don't mind doing. You'll also use a little more ink but that's the cost of quality. The Windows App made setting this printer very easy and kudo's to Microsoft and Canon for that. This is my first tank printer which I'm looking forward to using but you have to keep in mind that if you don't use the printer at least some what regularly, the ink to the printhead WILL dry out if you leave it idle for too long. Keep that in mind for EVERY printer unless you're using a laser jet. After adding the ink and updating the software I printed out my test page, simply scanned it and the printer itself set the print alignment to it's best settings. Super easy! Print outs aren't the fastest which is fine I'm not looking for speed to be honest. Print quality is very good on standard settings but I'll probably set it for best print quality later. Canon printers inherently have a sequence of sounds that hasn't changed in 28 years lol. Same for most other brands too. Not annoying but not silent either so don't expect that. It's no louder than the other brands. Canon has always done good black and white printing well before the other printer brands and their color quality has improved significantly as well. Having tanked ink versus having to buy cartridges is VERY cost effective! You essentially pay double for the printer but save long-term in the amount of printing (the REAL cost). We used to have a Cartridge World store that would sell refurbed ink tanks that worked 100% of the time but that location closed recently and sadly. If you have one near you I highly recommend them! I had recently bought an Epson XP4200 AOI printer but finding the cartridges took some time and forget locating them in your local store unless you get lucky, then came the cost. The XL cartridges range $30-$50 which is about what I paid for the printer new. Even off brand ones aren't that cheap. Having a tankless printer saves me time in finding ink and saves me a ton of money over having to buy overly expensive cartridges. Many of the 3rd party ones don't always work either so it's iffy in regards to cost savings. If at some point I have to do the printhead bath to clean them I don't mind, it's well worth it for not having to buy outrageously expensive cartridges. I'm done with them! I definitely recommend this printer even if you're only doing average home use. Just remember to use it every week even if just once.

Perfect home printer!
So happy with this purchase! So easy to set up! Works perfectly in color or black/white. I use it to print photos and get good results on glossy paper. Nice size. Control panel on front very handy.

A few sacrifices over my old printer but a nice printer
I got rid of my old printer as It was still looking brand new, worked great AND A FIRMWARE UPDATE BRICKED IT FROM USING 3RD PARTY CARTRIDGES. Not buying that brand again so I looked at Canon which we have used in the office. Of course business type printers not an inkjet like this one. It prints well. A few things I like are: PROs - No cartridges - Filled with bottles so I don't have to buyer their brand cartridges. And the refillable ink and parts are not all that expensive. - Borderless printing which I like - Decent price for the printer. CONs - There are more cons to me, but I haven't bought a printer for 5 years in this price range. So I'm sure things change and these are not too big of deals. - Back load tray. I always liked a paper tray on the bottom which feeds into the machine. Less parts sticking out. - Can't email straight from the machine. Not as easily as my other one which you hit a scanner button. This you have to setup a certain way and not friendly to do so. I also had trouble getting it to recognize my network for scanning to their cloud. Had to change the DNS server to Googles 8.8.8.8 for it to work. The instructions for the printer are all online and is just a jumble of data so you have to hunt around to find what you want. - The web login for the printer itself is so so basic. If they could have just put an address book and let you setup scan to email from there it would have been wonderful. But there is not alot you can do once logging into the printer. - Lastly, NO LAN PORT! The printer sits right next to the modem but they opted to put a USB cable port (yes the old fashioned one) and wireless instead of a LAN port. That would have bade everything so much faster. But like I said, these are basic things. I just want to be able to print and it does a good job of it. Just the scanner, functionality could use alot of tweaking.

I have had this printer a short time but so far I have been very happy with it. I haven't tried printing any photos as of yet but will keep you updated.

Sick of wasting money on ink for cheap inkjet printers. They're not a bargain. This unit will allow you to clean the print heads regularly without blowing ANOTHER cartridge! Pretty much solves the cost problems of inkjet printers.

I'm very happy with this printer. The ink cartridges for my old printer were quite expensive so I'm looking forward to saving a lot of money with these refillable ink tanks. My first colour print was perfect. I copied a page from a pattern book and it looked exactly like the original as far as clarity and colour exactness is concerned. Setup instructions on the printer screen were very clear and easy to follow. Connecting to Wifi was very fast and effortless. The only complaint I have is that the diagram on the printer screen for installing the print heads was not at all clear. Thank goodness for YouTube videos. Canon could have included a sheet of paper showing exactly how to open the print head housing. Some of us are wary of applying any force to delicate equipment unless it's clearly called for. Canon did not include a USB cable to connect the printer directly to a computer. For me it wasn't an issue because I had one already but it's something that potential buyers should be aware of. My Wifi is usually disabled as I use an ethernet cable to access the internet so having the USB option is more convenient & faster than enabling the Wifi. The only other complaint I have is that, to the best of my knowledge, Canon does not offer a downloadable PDF file of the user manual, which can only be accessed from their website. I like to have information available offline as well.
