Wow! What an incredible book, it’s more than a recipe book. This book shares this family's stories of hard work, dedication, the appreciation they have for their culture but especially and most importantly for each other. It had me smiling, crying and in deep introspection with the stories shared. It transported me to a different time and place. The recipes are so easy to follow (I hope finding ingredients is not so difficult in my area) it also includes photos of the process which is hugely appreciated. Beautifully done!

This is truly one of the most beautifully designed and informative cookbooks to be released in a very long time. I’m a beginner to cooking Korean cuisine, but the wealth of knowledge in UMMA has built my confidence to try it out in my own kitchen.I can’t stress how gorgeous these pages are, from the photographs, the writing, the personal family touches, and the step-by-step guides. I highly appreciate cookbooks which include a section on the “fundamentals”—information about key ingredients and techniques, as this one does. 5/5 stars - a must buy, even if you’re not keen on Korean food!

Most of all the personal stories and mother-daughter conversations woven throughout the book add depth and emotional resonance, making it a unique and engaging read.

Absolutely LOVE this book. It’s such a wonderful and refreshing look on Korean cuisine, and simplifies recipes for even beginner cooks like me to enjoy. It’s very organized, and has a great balance of conversation to each recipe. The instructions are clear, easy to follow, and I like how they go in depth about the ingredients and their backgrounds. There are SO MANY recipe options for every category you can think of, and I really enjoy how down to earth it is. I can’t wait to try out a lot of these recipes!

This book is so much more than just a cookbook. The stories along the recipes makes them so meaningful. As a child of immigrant parents and an immigrant myself food is cultural and a way to pass traditions down. Very well written book, easy to follow with great explanations about ingredients. Really like the fact that things are sorted in sections or chapters. What a wonderful gift from mother to daughter. A piece of her she will have forever, and how wonderful Sarah has shared this with the world.

I have been waiting for months for this moment.This is not just a cookbook, pages and pages of photos, stories, tiniest little tips that Umma wouldn’t leave behind, and the most gorgeous pictures for each step.I find most cookbooks intimidating and unapproachable, I look up a recipe and that’s it, but Umma’s book is like that favorite novel that you go over and re-read, over and over again.I have been following Sarah’s videos for months and when I saw the news about this book, there was no doubt that I wanted it.Every recipe from Umma that I tried from Sarah’s TikToks has been absolutely incredible. On point instructions and tips that make a huge difference.They even included a whole section to introduce Korean ingredients, their preferred brands and tips on buying Korean vegetables and herbs like Perilla and aster scaber.
