Watch the gender sw, jealous rages, and martial arts battles unfold all over again! ]]> Review ------ Not only have the masters at VIZ Media gone to great lengths to lovingly restore and faithfully present Ranma ½ within an inch of high definition perfection, they've given fans everything they could want and more, righted old wrongs from previous home video releases (the series' original Japanese episode order has been restored for one), and have even made FUNimation -- whose questionable handling of the "Uncut" Dragon Ball Z remastered sets has alienated DBZ diehards -- look positively out of touch with classic anime fandom. And kudos to every VIZ team member involved. While other anime companies struggle to get their signature series released in HD in a way to appeal to both fans and casual viewers alike, often irritating the former in the process, Viz realized that their main audience is otaku who want the series in the original form. This release boasts the episodes in the original order, with the original aspect ratio, and a gorgeous transfer. What more could you want? Oh yeah, the choice of either an English dub or the original Japanese track with optional subtitles! You get it all with this excellent release. The new remaster is uncropped, allowing the series to be viewed in its original 4:3 aspect ratio. The restoration process has given the series a much-needed spit-shine as well, boosting colors and cleaning up some of the grime that was present in the old DVDs. The box is beautiful too, vibrant and sturdy, and packed with a 64-page booklet that includes episode recaps, as well as a sample of the manga. It's obvious that this re-release was supervised by people who loved the series.
