Such a great color - and doesn’t harm my hair!
It actually conditions my hair, as they say! I don’t bleach my hair underneath this color, I actually put it on over a dark chocolate cherry dye I use on my whole head. I put this midnight blue dye on the bottom third of my hair on top of the chocolate cherry dye. This gives it a really nice, dark blue - almost dark purple color - and the parts of my hair that are highlighted blond streaks get a nice teal color - it’s a pretty mix that I get lots of comments on! It lasts pretty well, but I need to wash my hair with cold water to keep the color - I also re-dye with this every 2-3 weeks, but it’s so easy! I just color the bottom 1/3 of my hair with this midnight blue dye……I put my hair in two ponytails, put the dye on, then put the ponytails in ziplox bags, tightened with hair bands, and sleep with it on - then rinse it in the morning. I love this hair dye! Soooo worth the money!

Love it!
Edit: PLEASE INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE OF DYE YOU ARE REVIEWING.This is much better (darker, more pigment) than the Amplified version, with longer staying power! I have yet to find a dark blue that doesn't have turn to an at the very least somewhat purple tone when using conditioner to cut (I've tried SFX, Adore, Lunatik, Sparks and Splat - not one navy-like blue in the bunch...). I always begin with a thorough bleaching (unless it's a root job - or just adding dark areas with Bigen), I mix After Midnight with a lot conditioner and apply liberally. In a separate bowl, I then prepare a small amount of Bigen dark brown hair dye, enough to cover my roots with enough remaining to work in to the rest of my hair - the conditioner already applied helps that part. I leave it in less than an hour after completing application (it takes a good 90 minutes to do, so I'm pretty much ready to rinse once I've cleaned up the inevitable mess - and the Bigen is FAST). I can't emphasize enough that the Bigen should be added to your hair at the very last, if not 10-15 minutes before rinsing!!! The company says it themselves: no matter what color you choose, given enough time on your head, all shades will eventually go to black. And it's permanent (but a powder, without lift!), so you would need to re-bleach if overly darkened. But, the result is worth it for me! My hair has both pastel smokey blues and very dark bits simultaneously... Love it!!!

How to use this dye for the best possible color.
I've used manic panic for a long time. The thing about the brand is that it's not permanent. But It's one of the better semi-permanent hair dyes out there that's not too expensive.Red colors will stick MUCH better than blue colors. Which is why when hair dye fades your hair becomes brassy (or even green yikes!). The red, yellow, and orange in the dyes linger the longest. The fade on this is pretty good. I recommend mixing it with manic panic's silver blue to help the fade be less brassy. Your fade will be more silver and less green that way.ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU HAIR IS FRESHLY WASHED AND NOT GREASY OR CONTAINING CHEMICALS BEFORE APPLYING THIS KIND OF DYE. I didn't wash my hair after swimming in a pool once and the leftover chlorine in my hair made the color wash out completely. Your hair needs to be clean and it needs to be dry. No grease, no hairspray, no nothing. Wash your hair in the morning, let it dry, and then add the dye in the evening.IF YOU DON'T BLEACH YOUR HAIR, THE DYE WILL NOT STICK AS WELL. Even if you bleach your hair for just 10 or 15 minutes it makes the color stick better than putting it on your natural hair. If you have a strict no-bleach policy then I hope you at least have blonde hair. Because the color will look really gross otherwise. Brown just doesn't mix with vivid colors like this. Brown makes everything else brown.LEAVE THE DYE IN YOUR HAIR FOR LONGER THAN THE RECOMMENDED TIME. I put a shower cap on and sleep in it, or leave it in for 6 hours. Some people will say it doesn't matter as long as it's over an hour. I think it matters. Leave the dye in for at least 3 hours.RINSE YOUR HAIR WITH COLD WATER AND DO NOT WASH WITH SOAP. DO NOT WASH WITH SOAP!!!! When it comes time to rinse out this dye, if you use shampoo after applying it you will notice an immediate fade. If you just rinse your hair with COLD water until the color in the water fades to pretty much clear, then you will have washed all the dye residue off. Not washing your hair for at least 48 hours after the initial rinse will help bind the color to your hair and make it fade slower. Don't skip this step. Seriously. Don't use shampoo or conditioner for 48 hours after rinsing this dye out with cold water.SPRAY IN SHAMPOO IS YOUR FRIEND.For anyone coloring their hair using semi-permanent dye, it's going to fade. And it's going to fade in proportion to how much you wash your hair. Wash your colored hair in COLD or COOL water always. Tie it up and don't get it wet if you like hot showers. Turn the shower water cold or wash it in the sink. I only wash my hair once a week. I've trained my hair and now it only starts to get oily after about the 5th day of not washing it. Your color will stay vivid and you will need to buy less hair dye if you wash your hair less. Washing your hair every day is damaging to your scalp and hair anyway.MIX THIS DYE WITH A RED DYE TO GET A LONGER LASTING DARK PURPLE. For some reason purple hair dye doesn't stick to save your life. I've tried every type of manic panic purple and it's gone after the third wash. Mix midnight blue with vampire red to get a lovely purple color. You can add developer or your choice of conditioner to the mix in order to make the colors lighter. Red to blue ratio decides if the purple is more navy purple, plum, or magenta.FOLLOW THESE RULES AND YOUR COLOR WILL LAST YOU A MAXIMUM OF 5-6 WEEKS BEFORE YOU HAVE TO REAPPLY OR TOUCH UP YOUR ROOTS.

and the most brilliant and gorgeous cobalt blue on grey hair that's received ...
I've been using Manic Panic After Midnight Blue on and off for the past 15 years (literally half my life at this point) and despite formula changes I keep coming back to it.- I naturaly have medium ashy brown hair with ever-increasing silver streaks. This color shows up: dark brown with blues-green shimmer/highlights on untreated brown hair, medium blue to sky blue on untreated grey hair, a more subdued teal color on bleached (single process to dark yellow) brown hair, and the most brilliant and gorgeous cobalt blue on grey hair that's received any kind of bleach whatsoever (it opens the hair shaft I think).- Works best if you leave it on for at least 2 hours; longer is better, but with diminishing returns (tho I used to sleep in it with a showercap on towel on the pillow.) It's a conditioning treatment + gloss, so this is safe.- The amplified formula has decent staying power. It rubs off on pillows and clothing necklines for the first few days, dress accordingly and get blue pillowcases. Staying power is better if you rinse hair without shampoo or use dry shampoo if necessary. Oil treatments, castile soap, and vinegar rinses will strip the color out of your hair SO fast, which is good if you want to change colors.
