is it good only for thin hair or is it good for medium think curly frizzy hair too? Description says short hair?

I thought that I was buying a BRUSH iron.  It is little spikes and wasn't what I wanted.  That said, here is my experience.  I have short, straight, thin hair about 4" long. It was almost impossible to keep the hair against the heat, so results were not satisfactory.  I also use a foaming mousse which makes my hair easier to manage and adds volume.  I have been using curling irons for 40 years, so ability to function with an iron is NOT lack of experience.  I would THINK that it might work with your hair, but extra care would be required so it doesn't get tangled and have to be cut out of your hair.  Good luck!

When you turn on the mini travel iron does it change from red to green when ready to use?

When you turn it on the temp will flash on and off. The side dial lets you set the temp up or down. The iron will continuing flashing until the temp is reached. When the temp is a solid and static number the iron is ready. It heats up in seconds.

Can I put the hot curling iron in the travel pouch or does it need to cool first?

It doesn’t travel that well in the travel pouch. But the plastic bristles protect a pouch from the hot rod so I often put it directly into the bag I used for it, the curling iron and my comb and brush on travel days without any problems. The pouch that comes with it would be of more use if it help both the curling brush and the cord

I know it's a curling brush, but can it be used to eliminate some waves, keeping hair straight but curling just the ends under a bit for a bob?

I have used it that way.. I love thus little curling iron.  I broke the first one by rocking on it and immediately ordered a replacement.
