IRIS USA 4-Pack 35 Qt. Letter/Legal File Box with Latching Lid, Black

So I got the black ones with the clear top. I have seen a lot of anecdotal, low score reviews recently about them arriving broken, being flimsy, etc. Mine came to me in one piece. The plastic they are made of seems fairly durable, somewhat pliable. Typical material for this type of storage container. As with most plastics though, if it is in below freezing temperatures it can and usually will become more brittle and is prone to cracking. The size is about perfect for my needs, it's slightly bigger than a standard cardboard "bankers box" for size reference. The "handles" are adequate for most weight you can put into these, certainly if you're just putting paper into them. If you're putting rocks into them, firstly, why? Secondly, they will not hold up to that weight. The lid sit's fairly sturdily in place, though not "locked" tightly, it closes into place with a tactile and audible click. I would say that you could get away with storing these stacked three or four high easily, and you wouldn't get any lid sagging or breakage, as long as you were only storing papers and not the aforementioned rocks. If I notice anything else or anything unexpected happens in the future I will update this review accordingly! I'd say buy with confidence, damage in shipping sometimes happens. They are definitely good value for cost IMO!

I have tried different types of products for paper/file organization, to include filing cabinets, banker boxes, and fabric filing boxes. Filing cabinets are too bulky, and normal home-sized ones don't offer enough space. Banker boxes are spendy, and I don't feel cardboard is completely protected against the elements, especially when living in wet/humid climates. Fabric filing boxes are the least durable of these options, can't be easily cleaned, and the fabric is easy to damage. They are also way overpriced for what you get. These plastic filing boxes are so awesome, and just what I needed. They come in a pack of 4, and are a good size. File folders move with ease, something that fabric boxes sometimes miss the mark on, and banker boxes don't have. The lids close easily and securely. They evenly stack for closet storage, or even better for my purpose, they are easily slid under a bed. I got the black ones, which may not be as visually appealing to some, but I did notice it isn't the only colored offered. I didn't really mind the black option, and it was less expensive as well. The price on these is a great deal, and after having purchased and used them, I would have gladly paid more for such a space efficient, high quality, and durable product. 5/5 would recommend. I received 2 day shipping, and the product arrived in perfect condition. If I find myself in need of more file storage, I know exactly what product I will be buying.

Good for the price. The lids are flimsy. One of four was broken in shipping. I'm just going to keep it.

Great storage containers

I was seriously wondering what I’d end up with when I ordered these, but as a small business owner I desperately needed to purge files that were jammed into my two filing cabinets and across my studio. I was going to order the banker boxes, but am terrified of spiders and since the boxes would be sitting in my work space in the basement with my art supplies, finding something that was a little more aesthetically pleasing than a cardboard box intrigued me. When I kept trying to get more info, I was limited to ordering the black (maybe it was a Prime thing?). I’ve started this thing where I only read the negative reviews because it’s so hard to tell which of the good ones are real. Here’s a breakdown so hopefully no one else will need to spend as much time figuring out if these are worth the money (I’ve already filled two of the four): • They’re perfectly sized for standard hanging files • Opaque black, and roomy enough to hold something else if you clean out your files and want to use them for something else • Snap-lock sturdy lids!! • You can definitely stack these (I’ve got two stacked) • Small built-in indentations for carrying when the lid is attached

All arrived intact. Good for my purpose. But if you need heavy duty remember these are plastic not rubber. Plastic cracks and breaks. Rubber is flexible. If they’re going to be moved around and handled a lot by careless hands you might want to look for a rubbery more flexible box. I use mine for storage— Christmas, old photo albums, childhood mementos, high school yearbooks, etc. I will be moving and wanted a box that I can move easily myself—size and limited content capacity- and also not have to do anything with but slide them into a closest when I arrive. The tops have a tendency to pop off easier than a bigger more rugged storage box but with the addition of Velcro straps around the box and lid I’ve had no issues.

I have purchased several batches of these for a purpose other than file storage. If all you need them for is to keep your tax return info, that you only access once in a blue moon, they should be fine for that. If not read on. My use case is to transport 14" laptops to classrooms. They are a perfect size for that because I haul the laptops around in neoprene sleeves for protection, and they just fit in the boxes. I pack them into a vehicle, stack them in a cart, haul them into class, return them to the vehicle, then repeat about 3 times a week. I'm not too rough with them, but they last about 12 months before I they need to be replaced. Usually, the lids crack, or the box base cracks. It seems like, as time has gone on, IRIS has made them thinner and reduced the quality of the plastic from which they are molded. Generally, I accept that because they are water resistant, minimize wasted space, stack well, and I try to buy them on sale when less than $6 each. Although I continue to buy them, I only rate them as a 3 star: quality could be a lot better. Be aware that in the case of "sold and shipped by Amazon", Amazon does a poor job of packaging for shipment. As you can see from the photos, one of my 2 most recent shipments arrived broken, even though the box was not significantly damaged. One problem is that these things shatter easily with a slight impact. The major contributing factor, though, is Amazon ships them out without any additional packing, just in the boxes provided by IRIS. Check out my photo of the box - the cardboard is very thin, and not really suitable as a sole shipping container. There is a high likelihood that your order may be received damaged.

I was concerned after reading some of the other reviews that these would be flimsy or arrive broken. But I needed specifically a black box with a clear lid, and this was the only one I could find, so I took a chance. I'm happy to report these are sturdy bins that arrived without anything broken. They are a standard weight plastic for a storage bin, and seem like they will hold up well. If you stuffed them completely full of paper of course they would be heavy and I'm not sure I'd stack them more than 2-3 high, but that's the case with any similar style bin. I purchased this to make a solar shower for car camping. Just like a bag style solar shower it has a black base and a clear lid that you leave all day in the sun to heat water, I'll probably just fill it as I leave the house and let it heat in the bed of my truck all weekend. This goes along with my pump style camp shower. By my math one container should hold about 12 gallons of water, plenty for 3-4 showers. And then I can pack all my camping cleaning supplies into it for storage. I only really wanted to buy 1 box but the minimum (both on amazon and the Iris website) was a 4-pack, and that's my only knock on this product.

One file box arrived with a broken corner

Very decent sized and well priced boxes! Only gripe is they usually come with ONE damaged box on the corner. You can still close it with the cracked corner but.. it seems they occasionally ship 1 bad one in a pack of 4 so check yours out. Otherwise, I like them. :) Update: Most of them have held up over the past 2 years (I purchased 12 of them) but they break easily. I do like them, and would consider buying more however, as of today the price is over $140... I paid $52 in 2020. Not sure how the price could almost triple for plastic... So, they are nice, but, not for the current price. If they were around the same price I paid back in 2020... I would buy 4 more. So, they are good enough... but not at 3x the price.

Pedí la opción sin tapas, ya que para lo que las necesito no las requiero y aparte era conveniente en cuanto al precio ya que es una opción mas económica, sin embargo, me llegó rota también una de las cajas, por lo que pienso que no aguantan el traslado, quizá deberían reforzar el empaquetado ya que como es plástico delgado es frágil.
